Take me to the zoo (part 5)

In case you arrived late to the zoo party, part 1 of the zoo photos is here, part 2 is here, part 3 is here, and part 4 is here.

We left the buffalo and walked past the pavilion, which had been

decorated with these houses for Zoobilee and had not yet been removed.

We walked past this grass that looks like the bamboo in my back yard.

Sally was getting tired by now, so we walked quickly

past the bridge

and the Tiger Trek.  She had originally wanted to see this exhibit

and the Gorilla Forest where there's a new baby,

but decided all she had energy for were the elephants.  You can see I'm playing catch up again.

It was all starting to look familiar.

This time there were no ropes to follow

and we could enter through this entry.  Before, we followed the fence seen in the background.

If you were here the first time we saw the elephants, most of this will look familiar to you.

So, I'll let you peruse these photos

and enjoy the elephants.

I can understand why they are such a crowd pleaser.

As we were preparing to head home, I stopped long enough to take a photo of the waterfall the elephants can play under.

Then we turned a corner and found the meerkats, Sally's favorite mammals.  Of course we had to stop, and I took the opportunity for a photo op

with this poser.  You can see the glass wall separating the meerkats from humans.

This one came out of hiding as I was turning to leave.

Three of many are in this photo.

But it was time to leave, especially since the meerkats had found a favorite place to pose and were waiting for more people to take their photos.

I think this is a baboon, but I'm not sure, since I didn't see any signs and I couldn't see the face.   My only clues were the red rump and the fact we were in the Africa area of the zoo.

It was easy to tell this was the rhino

even without seeing the marker.  Yes, our zoo only has one.

I love to spend time with the giraffes.

This day we arrived from a different direction

and saw them playing in a different area.

These were all I had time to photograph

because it was time to head home.  Again, remnants of Zoobilee will be gone the next time we visit.

The koi and lily pads signal welcome and goodbye.

And that's my cue to wish you a fantastic weekend and thank you for visiting this last stop at the zoo.

Lots of things to see at the zoo in today's photographs. I am with Sally on the meerkat attraction. They are just so much fun to watch and the baby ones are adorable, We go to a small nature reserve where they have a family of meerkats and there always seem to be some tiny ones.

Have a lovely weekend

Sorry you had to miss out on the Tigers but I must say the meerkats and the giraffes are two of my favourites! I am a big fan of a good zoo and this looks pretty good me! The one we used to go to had a brilliant conservation programme but got themselves in bother over safety issues(not all of them justified).
I have really enjoyed seeing this through your camera lens! Hugs, Chrisx

I've been to a few zoos, but I have to say I am not a fan. This one looks pretty spacious though. We had a chance to go to Toronto's zoo many, many moons ago and it was huge, which felt like the animals could relax more. Looks like a clean and tidy place though, good for the animals. xox

How fun. I LOVED seeing the elephants. The actually look pretty content-and the baby was so cute. I bet Sally loved seeing the meerkats. I always wondered what zoos do with all their African animals in the winter. Maybe that's why we don't have a lot of zoos here in New England with our long icky winters. I think your lucky to get to the zoo. I think the tigers and the gorillas would have been cool to see, too bad Sally was getting tired. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Hugs-Erika
