If it's Sunday, it's Second on the 2nd Rocking Horses

 

Today is Second on the 2nd, where we bring back a post or parts of posts that we have shown in the past.  I'm also joining Nicole for Sunday in the Art Room or SITAR, and Gillena with Sunday Smiles.   

 

As many of you know, whenever possible, I like my Second Look to somehow reflect what our current host at Art Journal Journey is featuring.  That means I need to find something In the good old summertime, which is Erika's theme for August.   I'll share two spreads from July, 2017.

Today is also Rocking Horse Sunday.  I'll share a few I have shown in the past, some of which are unconventional.  

  I showed this horse last week.  You can get a better view of it this week.

  This is the side you didn't see last week.  I received it as a Christmas gift in 2017.

  I picked this rocking horse up at a thrift store after the new year in 2013 for $1.00 (USD).  It's the same material as the one above it and has a Christmas theme.

  This is from July 30, 2013.  It's from a What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday (WOYWW) post where WOYWWendy helped me with a bit of rework on one of my wooden rocking horses.  To adhere the mane, I used "The Ultimate!," which I prefer to E6000.  Both Wendy and I knew how the "mane" came loose from this gentle, defenseless rocker.   Has anyone seen the "bleu"-grey offender?  

  Back on July 4, 2015, I was using my gelly pens to lay out a new design for my back patio.

  The important item is my adorable rocking horse, brought to me from a friend when she went to India.  It's a lovely and proud stuffed animal.

Now let's look at some "non-conventional" rocking horses.

  These beauties came from Chris (Pear Shaped Crafting).

 This is a birthday card I received one year from  Chris at Pear Shaped Crafting.  Yes, I count it.

  This is some gifted rocking horse fabric ribbon.  I count this as one, also. 

   Can you see the rocking horses on my table?  They are tiny rocking horse clothes pins.

  On the left, you can see one of the rockers has walked away.  I wondered where it was hiding.  In the middle, I tried to show the size of the clothes pins and rockers.  On the right you can tell I've corralled the errant rocker, and must glue it back in place.  Now you see why I can claim I own over 450 rocking horses.  They can be functional as well as decorative!  

    This is a small frame in which I placed a rocking horse. 

  I hope that put it in perspective.   This photo is from December, 2013.

   The rocking horse in the oval frame is the first one I made myself back in the late 1980s when I lived in Missouri.

  This is a sad photo of my tin cut candle holders.

Speaking of candle holders, these normally sit in a craft room window.

 

  There are several rockers on this wall, including the tiny single earring draped over the dark blue container.

   This beauty is SEW cute!

   Technically not a rocking horse, I picked this one up in a thrift store in Omaha, NE. while doing my internship.  I was told it's a boot scraper.  I know it's heavy.

  The top of the cabinet in my office gets its fair share of rocking horses. 

   Those who visit my home at Christmas know I decorate with trees.  It doesn't mean I can't include rocking horses, too.

   A few gifted paper rockers from Australia, and 

   one from South Africa.  Both were Thank you gifts for teaching the altered book (AB) class back in 2012.

   I used both stamped and die cut images when I taught my AB class.  I have at least six gifted rocking horse stamps, some red rubber, some acrylic.  None are wood mounted. 

  One final rocking horse that sits on my front porch.   Children love to ride in it.

I could go on forever, showing my rocking horse collection.   However, I fear I have already bored a few visitors today.

Let's take a closer look at these rocking horses.

 

Mickey and Minnie are not just sitting on a rocking horse, this is also a Christmas music box.  It even rocks back and forth when the music plays.

 

This is another Christmas rocking horse.  It is made of a strange feeling material.

  

I purchased this ceramic rocking horse one year for Christmas.  This is one of a very few I purchased myself.

What really draws your eye in this area is this is where I display all my completed altered books.

 

It's a bit hard to see, but here are two of my smallest rocking horses.  Both were gifts.  The one on the table is a bit hard to see.  

 

The tiny one in the frame was sent to me broken.  I make a habit of opening every gift on camera.  I was devastated to see this tiny blown glass rocker was broken during transport.  Since I had proof it was broken when I opened it, the seller sent a new one after the person who bought it for me showed proof using my photos.  

 

I wasn't about to toss this tiny beauty.  It was still loved, so I found a way to make it stand out by framing it like an award.

If it's Sunday, it's time for Rocking Horses.

 

Several of my art friends are sharing their photos from around their homes.  I decided that every Sunday I would show a few of my over 450 rocking horses.  If you joined What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday or WOYWW, you know I showed one each time I joined in.  Here I will share where they live when they were not being displayed on my work table. 

I'm also joining Nicole for Sunday in the Art Room or SITAR, and Gillena with Sunday Smiles.  I checked to make sure my post qualifies at both places, and it appears to qualify.

In case you weren't here last week on Sunday, this is what you missed.  I realize my home looks very cluttered.  Believe it or not, I've gotten rid of things I will never use again, but I somehow can't seem to get rid of my altered books and journals, or my rocking horses.

 

There are five rocking horses that live among the silk flowers and flicker lights, several of which are hidden.

 

The ceramic rocker that holds the candle is a Hummel.  You don't have to tell me.  I need to climb on a step ladder and clean everything on that shelf.

 

The two rockers, a candle, wooden box, tin of Prince Albert tobacco, and a tin of Singer sewing machine oil add to the vignette.

 

These two rockers, one of which reminds me of the horse that sits on my front porch in which children like to ride, sit together amid the flowers.
