Priorities

 

I'm once again at Art Journal Journey joining my friend, Halle of Halle's Hobbies.  Her theme for the month of July is Fabric, lace, and trims…oh my!  Below is my next entry for her theme. 

Unlike yesterday's sentiment, I actually chose this based on the elements I used.  Details are below.

 

I began by sewing the very stretchy background fabric to 5 X 8 in (12.7 X  20.32 cm) 110 lb cardstock using blue variegated thread.  Then I created both sub assemblies.  The one on the right started with a sample of Sunbrella fabric to which I sewed the last of some gifted lace ribbon and a small piece of shimmery fabric.  I then added that assembly to the striped fabric that I bought years ago as a fat quarter.  It was the first time I used it.  I then sewed these pieces to the background fabric and the other piece of shimmery fabric I found in my stash.  Finally, I added the sentiment I colored with a watercolor pencil.

Flutter Lover

 

Today I'm at Art Journal Journey joining my friend, the very talented Halle of Halle's Hobbies.  Her theme for the month of July is Fabric, lace, and trims…oh my!  Below is my latest entry.

This has been a disaster from the very beginning.  I love to tear my fabric, but this gifted bit of fabric was cut on the bias, so I had no way to tear it.  Detail images are below.

 

I began by sewing the fabric to 5 X 8 in (12.7 X  20.32 cm) 110 lb cardstock using blue variegated thread.  I dyed cheesecloth using a Staz-on reinker.  When dry, I sewed it to the right side of the assembly.  I then sewed the lace to the top of the assembly.  Next, I adhered the computer generated words I colored with a watercolor pencil.  Finally, I sewed the rick rack to the bottom of the assembly.  I personally don't believe I need a sentiment in my art, but I know Halle does. Therefore the lame name of the art assembly.

The Green Apple House

 

I'm once again joining Matilde from Craftowanie.  You probably know by now she is our host this month at Art Journal Journey.  Her theme is Houses and Buildings.  

I'm not sure if this is my penultimate or final entry this month.  It all depends on the weather because I am fighting water in my basement due to all the rain we are getting.  We got over 4 inches overnight last night and more is on the way.  We set a record for the wettest June since 1928.

Today I give you The Green Apple House.  Details are below.

 

 

I began by cutting a sheet of green cardstock into a circle.  Next, I cut both sides so it looked like the apple had been eaten.  Next, I cut and affixed the stem which I am calling the chimney.  Then it was time to stamp the apple inside the core.  That represents the door.  I then outlined the house using green dye ink.

 

Next I colored the sky blue using a watercolor pencil.  For some reason, it doesn't show on the scan.  I used a peach Posca pen to draw the ground on which the house sits.  Finally, I added a bird sticker and the words that I outlined in black dye ink.

The Security House

 

I'm once again joining Matilde from Craftowanie.  She is our host this month at Art Journal Journey.  Her theme is Houses and Buildings.  

I give you the Security House.  Can you tell why I call it that?  Details are below.

Every part of this house, right down to the door knob, was created using security envelopes.  It's no secret I save security envelopes and love to use them in my art.  There are some great patterns and they are free for the taking (after you've removed and dealt with the item inside, of course).

I used watercolor pencils to create the sky, grass, flowers, and sidewalk.

Daffodils

 

I created this for Art Journal Journey (AJJ) and for my dear friend Chris, this month's host.  She can be found at PearShapedCrafting. Chris's theme is Spring Forward.  

This will be my final entry for Chris's theme at Art Journal Journey (AJJ).  I purposely colored outside the lines because I was never sure where one color should end and the other begin.  I have two detail shots to show.

 

Unfortunately when I was gluing the image to cardstock, some of the watercolors reactivated and made a bit of a mess.  Next time I'll seal the image before I glue it in place.

Spring Forward

 

I want to begin by thanking everyone who created a journal or altered book page at Art Journal Journey (AJJ) in February.  Although I only had a couple of days in which I could leave comments, I tried to reach everyone I possibly could.

This month we are asked to Spring Forward by our dear friend Chris, this month's host, whose blog is PearShapedCrafting.  This is my first entry for March.  Details are below.

 

 

I began by using one of my favorite stencils, gifted me several years ago by Mia. I used brown dye ink to cover this 5.5 X 8.5 inch (13.97 X 21.59 centimeter) page which is on 110 lb. cardstock. The grass and sky were created with watercolor pencils and the birds, butterflies, and flowers were all stickers I had in my stash.

Take a chance, Reward Yourself

I'm sure you know by now that Bleubeard and I are hosting Art Journal Journey (AJJ) this month.  Our theme for the entire month is Anywhere, Anytime, Any Place, with Anyone.

Be aware please, even though I read each post linked through AJJ, I can't leave comments on any blog, including my own. 

Today Bleubeard and I have two pages for you.

Roll the dice.  Take a chance.  Details are below.

 

I began this page by laying down metallic turquoise acrylic paint onto 110 lb. cardstock.  While the paint was drying, I computer generated the sentiment which I cut and colored, first with yellow, then orange watercolor pencils.  When the paint was dry, I adhered the Chance cards from my very old Monopoly game.  I auditioned several embellishments, including hearts, buttons, and keys, but none seemed to work with the page.  In the end, I left it plain. 

 

For my second page,

 

I call this Reward Yourself.  Details are below.

 

I began by laying down the bottom two Community Chest cards from my old Monopoly game.  I carefully adhered the TH paper doll to one of the cards.  The other card was for the doll to lean against.  However, as I was leaning the doll against the top card, it shifted as I was gluing it in place.  By the time I noticed, the glue had already started to set.  So much for my careful planning.

Presidents' Day in the USA

 

I'm sure by now you are tired of reading I am unable to leave comments on any blog, including my own, even though I visit each and every link left at Art Journal Journey (AJJ).   It's true and frustrating.  Even Google AI isn't able to help me.

If you live in the states, today is a Federal holiday. It is a celebration of George Washington's birthday, but has been changed to Presidents' or President's Day.  It is always celebrated on the third Monday in February.  

Originally it was intended to be a three day holiday for Federal workers, but has turned into a weekend of commercialism, with discounts of big ticket items such as appliances, furniture, and especially mattresses.  This is so retailers can clear their inventory by taking advantage of tax season. 

Today is Presidents' Day in the USA.  And what better way to recognize it than to visit Mount Rushmore.  Details are below.

 

This is the first time I noticed I was running out of toner in my black-only laser printer.  It became obvious when I printed the Mount Rushmore image.  

I colored part of the sky with a blue watercolor pencil and the trees with a green watercolor pencil.  I outlined the sentiment in black dye ink.  Note the mistake in the first paragraph.  I didn't until it was already glued in place.

Day at the beach

 

I want to begin by thanking Halle for hosting Art Journal Journey in July.  She gave us some incredible botanicals and left everyone a great comment.  Thanks so much, Halle.

Today we welcome a new host as we do at the beginning of each month.  This host is no stranger to Art Journal Journey because she is a former moderator.  It is my dear internet friend Chris at Pearshaped Crafting.  Chris's theme is Hot Summer (Nights and Days).  She also referred to Neil Diamond and his Hot Summer Nights song.  This is my interpretation of her theme.  However, I must admit, this was a disaster from the very beginning.

It's obvious I named this Day at the beach.  Detail shots are below.

I started by coloring the surfboards I found on the internet using watercolor pencils.  When dry, I fussy cut them.  While they were drying, I used watercolor pencils to fill in the ocean and sky.  I cut and colored a sun, but when I began the assembly, it was so large it overpowered the collage.   

 

I really messed up during assembly.  

I glued the bottom sandpaper (marked as the front) to the base, but forgot to leave enough space for the surfboards and the top sandpaper to sit behind the front sandpaper.  Instead, the surfboards look really weird now.  The adhesive I used is so strong, I would have torn the cardstock if I tried to remove it. Since I waited till the last minute to create this and since drying time was so long, I didn't have time to make a new one.
