Poetry Journal Monthly: Winter Chores

Today I'm joining Robyn at Rainbow Weaves for this month's Poetry Journal Monthly.

My friend Kathy dropped off a "few" things last weekend, including the background for this piece.

My friend also gave me the poem.  I added it to the artwork

after I colored the sides of the poem.  I added the puffy paint and a bit of glitter, then glued everything to a used file folder.

The poem, Winter Chores," was written by Mark Case.  I used an excerpt of it.

Summer's gone, grain's in the bin.
The peace of winter settles in.
The wind blows cold; the snow piles deep.
And all the world seems fast asleep.
Yet life goes on in the out of doors
With the quiet pace of winter chores.

This time of year a man really adores.
He has nothing to do except the winter chores.

Enjoy.  And be sure to check out Robyn's Poetry Journal Monthly.

One thing I've noticed is, I'm sleeping more (LOTS more) and coughing less.  The chills are gone for the most part, and I "hope" I'm actually getting over whatever this is.  As always, I appreciate the kind remarks you leave.  Thank you SO much.

Autumn in my Altered AB

It's been awhile since I picked up my Altered, an AB (altered book).  I suspect the name sounds redundant, but it's important to me to know the focus of an AB when I start in it.  With that in mind, I created two spreads that celebrate Autumn.

This four page spread has two poems that represent the season.  For that reason, I am linking this to Robyn's Poetry Journal Monthly.

I tried to make the background as autumnal as possible, where I combined three colors of Golden's Fluid Acrylics.

The problem with using images, as well as poems from a book, is they are printed on both sides.  I had to find a way to show both sides of the page, so I sewed a small portion of the page such that the viewer, with very little trouble, could find the slightly hidden poem by Elsie Natalie Brady.

For the second spread, I continued the paint chip theme,

as well as the rest of the poem by Loise Pinkerton Fritz.

The paint chips were quite shiny under the OTT light, so I scanned each page.  I even stamped leaves on the paint chips.  Don't you just love the names of these chips?

You can see where I sewed the back-to-back poems on the right side of the first spread.  For this spread, I also cut up a Reese's cup wrapper and used it to frame the edges.

I used the same paint chips on the second spread, but I reversed them.

The pumpkins are icons of the season, as are falling leaves.  The rest of the poem, started in the first spread, is shown here.

This is Day 16 of AEDM,
and I created two spreads in my Altered AB.

Craft Barn's 22nd quotes and/or lyrics challenge

This fortnight, Craft Barn's 22nd quotes and/or lyrics words were Moon and Sensation.  Some of you were here earlier in the week and saw my ISP is not working at the moment, so my friend and neighbor loaned me an old laptop computer that has no mouse.  She also gave me access to her WiFi, but I can only use it when she isn't on one of her many devices.  So I knew I had a limited time to finish this challenge.

I had an idea of what I wanted to make, even before I looked for a quote, because I have several rubber stamps I thought I could use that would go well with anything moon related.  Of course, I knew I wouldn't be able to take step out photos because I can't seem to load PhotoShop on Sally's laptop, but I was able to get my scanner to work.

I began by finding the quote I liked, which is really part of a poem.  I spritzed the background of my used file folder with three of my shimmering mists, but the colors were so nearly identical, they all looked basically the same to me.  I cut a yellow moon sliver,

then spent a long time looking for my beautiful face stamp.  I don't have that many stamps and it's one I use a lot, so I can't figure out why I couldn't find it after going through every stamp I own in the three drawers that hold my stamps.  What I found was a moon that had been stamped by a swapper when I participated in an image swap one year.  I cut it out and colored it with blue pigment ink.

You can see the poem is by Emily Dickinson, and this is the first verse.  There are four more verses, but I didn't use them.  I also show this is the 22nd entry.

One final look of my moon before I head to the link-up.

I will also be entering this in Art Every Day Month (AEDM) for Day 3,

and Robyn's Poetry Journal Monthly.

I also want to thank all of you for your lovely comments on my 21st entry.  I was once again able to visit everyone, but still can't leave comments to those who are on Facebook, Flickr, or Fiona Spain who uses G+.

Journal 52, Week 38: Rhyme Time Meets Poetry Journal Monthly

For Week 38 at Journal 52, the prompt was Rhyme Time.  This week I'm also joining Robyn at Poetry Journal Monthly with the ONE and ONLY poem I ever wrote.

It was even published in a national teen magazine, although, for the life of me, I can no longer remember the name of it.

After all, I was only 11 when I wrote and submitted it.  Actually, if truth be told (and again, I simply don't remember) I suspect I talked my Grandmother (Grands raised me from birth) into submitting it for me.

To make matters worse, I can't even remember the title, although I bet you could guess the J52 week number if you look hard enough.  I wrote it four places.

While trying to create this entry, I looked high, low, and everywhere in between for the tree image I though I owned (in green).  But it must have belonged to my friend Kathy, because it was in with a bunch of stamped images I had received from a stamping swap I participated in years and years and years ago.  I did, on the other hand, find the other tree, but should have left it off, since I didn't stamp it nearly as well as the tree I had received in the swap.  As always, I have adhered the printer paper to a used file folder substrate, but still need to punch holes in it.

Thanks as always for your support and lovely comments.  Since I'm not on FB or Flickr, I don't mind combining this entry with Poetry Journal Monthly because Robyn supplies a link from her blog.  So head on over to Poetry Journal Monthly and give (or furnish) some linky love with your poem, whether it's original or one you admire (with credits, of course).
