Bathing Beauties At The Beach

Yesterday we hit a record high for Wichita, Kansas (USA).  It was 108 F (42.22 C) with a "feels like" 113 F (45 C).  I suspect even my heat loving friends will find it unbearable.

Today you will find me at Art Journal Journey, where I'm joining my friend Erika, who many of you know as BioArtGal.  Erika's theme for the entire month at AJJ is In the good old summertime.  And because it's Friday, I'm also joining Nicole for Friday Face-Off and Gillena for Art For Fun Friday.

It's obvious the title of this journal page is Bathing beauties at the beach.  Detail images are below.

I began by creating one of my favorite backgrounds where I combined a blue Staz-on reinker with 91% isopropyl alcohol.  However, when I auditioned the layout, I felt it was lacking.  I decided to adhere a napkin from my stash to the 5 X 8 in (12.7 X 20.32 cm) 110 lb background using a glue stick.  I then added the image I found in my stash.  Next, I added the computer generated title using a glue stick.  Finally, I adhered the two gold sea shells I found, along with other stickers, on a basement shelf I cleaned last week.

Thanks ever so much for dropping by today.  It means the world to me.  I hope to see you and your interpretation of In the good old summertime at Art Journal JourneyBleubeard and I will also be joining Nicole at Friday Face OFF, and Gillena at Art For Fun Friday.

She Sells Seashells

Today you will find me at Art Journal Journey, where I'm joining my friend Erika, who many of you know as BioArtGal.  Erika's theme for the entire month at AJJ is In the good old summertime.  And because it's Friday, I'm also joining Nicole for Friday Face-Off and Gillena for Art For Fun Friday.

Obviously, this is entitled She Sells Seashells By The Seashore.  Details are below.

The tongue twister "She sells seashells by the seashore" became widely known in the 19th century and was later turned into a popular 1908 song by Terry Sullivan.  It is a well-known tongue twister that gained popularity in the 19th century and is often recited for fun and used to improve pronunciation skills.  It is also used in educational settings to help children with phonics and pronunciation.  The phrase continues to be a popular and entertaining linguistic challenge for people of all ages.  The complete tongue twister is below:
She sells seashells by the seashore,
The shells she sells are seashells, I’m sure.
So if she sells seashells on the seashore,
Then I’m sure she sells seashore shells.

I began by adhering a napkin from my stash to 5 X 8 in (12.7 X 20.32 cm) 110 lb cardstock using a glue stick.  I then added the little girl that I found at The Graphics Fairy.  Next, I added the computer generated tongue twister using a glue stick.  Finally, I adhered the star button from my stash using E6000.

Thanks ever so much for dropping by today.  It means the world to me.  I hope to see you and your interpretation of In the good old summertime at Art Journal JourneyI'll also be joining Nicole at Friday Face OFF, and Gillena at Art For Fun Friday.

This stamp features a detail from a Renaissance masterpiece by the Italian painter Melozzo da Forlì (1438–1494).  The design reproduces Melozzo da Forlì’s “Angel with Trumpet,” a fresco fragment originally painted around 1480 as part of a larger composition, The Ascension of Christ, for the Church of Santi Apostoli in Rome. Melozzo was celebrated for his pioneering use of perspective and for the grace and serenity of his angelic figures, which appeared to float effortlessly in heavenly space. The fresco was removed from the church in the 18th century, and surviving sections—including this angel—are now preserved in the Vatican Pinacoteca and the Quirinal Palace in Rome.

*Postage Due stamps were issued from 1880 to November, 1985.  They were issued because postmasters who received cash didn't always claim the money at the end of the day. According to the Smithsonian Postal Museum:
The 1880 Report of the Postmaster General noted that the former system of collecting postage due had one great weakness: “In securing the full returns of [the postage due collected in cash] the department was entirely dependent on the fidelity of the postmasters.” Postage due stamps, affixed to underpaid mail as receipts for the underpayment collected, solved that problem by requiring postmasters to account for cash receipts that would balance any postage due stamps no longer in stock, in the same way that they had to account for regular postage stamp sales.
