The Waterworks

Today I'm joining Neet from Hickydorums, our host this month at Art Journal Journey.  Her theme is In Gear.

Bleubeard and I call this Waterworks.  We have detail shots, too.  Sadly, my scanner cropped the right water faucet.

I started the page using my brick wall stencil.  I used three different colors of dye ink to give more depth.  I die cut the various individual pieces of a Tim Holtz Bigz die gifted me several years ago by Erika.  I used 110 lb cardstock for the added weight needed when I colored everything.

I used Golden fluid acrylic quinacridone gold to color the individual pieces, which always looks like rust to me.  I globed it on in spots, but not in others.  I was hoping the pipes would look rusty and old.  I used my black Posca pen for the "gears."  I used several watercolor pencils to color the ends of the pipes.  I'm not sure if this qualifies as a gear, but I'm hoping it will.  This will be my final entry for Neet's theme.  It took nearly two weeks to create.

Bleubeard and I are delighted you joined us and hope to see you at Art Journal Journey as you share your own interpretation of In Gear.  There is still plenty of  time to join in the steampunk fun!!

Quinacridone Gold does have a rusty look to it, for sure. Worked great. :)

It certainly looks rusty but it is your wall that really is fabulous, hugs, Chrisx

I love the wall you have given us as your background which acts as the perfect backdrop for your pipework. It is good to see the different shades of brown and grey that you have used.
Quinacridone is the perfect paint to use when wanting to make some metal pieces look rusty and your pipes are certainly very old looking as they meander across the wall.
Thank you for this, your final entry, for my theme "In Gear" at Art Journal Journey.
Hugs, Neet xxx

I can see why this took a long time -- it's quite complex and beautifully done.

A fabulous rusty pipes page Elizabeth! Quinacridone gold is a favourite colour of mine, not easy to find in acrylic now. Golden have renamed theirs as Nickel Azo Gold which is similar.
Happy Sunday,
Alison

You must be on the improve, and I'm glad you could join in before the month is over. This page is great, I really love the bricks and I'm glad the pipes and faucets could be useful. :) It's been fun seeing all the different ways gears have been used this past month. hugs-Erika
