WOYWW 736: Answers and comments

It's Wednesday and I'm joining my dear friend, fearless leader, and our head desker Julia of Stamping Ground for What's On Your Workdesk this Wednesday, or WOYWW.  I'm going to let you know in advance that Julia likes us to keep it short, and I honestly try to do that.  However, that is not the case this week and it really isn't completely my fault.

Wendy is back in her usual spot and has her new badge in place.

Last week Jan (aka LLJ) wrote about peg bags.  I had NO idea what they were until Helen (H) mentioned she had no way to dry clothes outside.  Then it hit me that a peg bag is what we call a clothes pin bag.   My grandmother had one and I got it when she died.  I have a friend who is a seamstress who fell in love with it and offered to make me a new one IF I would lend her mine so she could get the measurements from it.  She even used a high end fiber reactive dye to make it look old and well used.  However, when I tried to use it, the opening isn't as large as the one my grandmother made, so instead of reaching inside the bag, I mostly leave a few clothespins around the opening.  Of course, there are about 30 more inside the bag.  This is my peg bag, LLJ.

Also last week, Angela from Crafting With Jack asked if I was going to make a Rocking Horse Journal.  Well, Angela, glad you asked.  I already made one.  This is the cover of my Visual Journal. It was my first attempt at sun dyeing fabric.  I used some of my rocking horses on the fabric.  I didn't leave the front horse on long enough, but I am not disappointed.

Here's a close up of the bling I created for the spine.  The word Rocking and two little rockers are wired into the the assembly.  To hide the wires, I wrapped the assembly in several different fancy fibers.

This is the rest of the bling that covers the spine.  That's an old paint brush, a pencil from my city, and some wood pieces I dyed green.

I attached a wooden rocking horse to a large button that can be used as the closure.

The inside left has more sun dyed rocking horses.

Every visual journal I make has three pockets in which to keep pens, pencils, rulers, etc.

This sun dyed pocket is a bit faint.  I'm glad this is for me because I would never send someone else such a pale pocket.

The inside back has a large pocket to hold items I collect along the way to add to my journal.  The loop closure is sewn between the front and back fabrics.

More sun dyed rocking horses.

And finally, a horrible photo of the back cover that even Photoshop couldn't color correct.

Here's a better photo of the full cover before I added the bling on the spine. I bet you wish you hadn't asked now, Angela.  BTW, I've never shown that rocking horse on the cutter before, either.

I hope Julia forgives me and doesn't kick me out of the club.  I will be much more succinct next week.

I love both your bags.
Our peg bag is actually a small basket that hangs on the line - yours is MUCH more stylish.

WOW, busy hands! The journal is fabulous - I love all the pockets - great idea to have things on hand like that. It is the bleaching (via sun?) that impressed me most. How fabulous are those rocking horse images and the real ones on the spine are fab too.

No it isn't a mint tin, it is a bought for the purpose 'slidey top' tin. A shop sells them but one of our members got them from a website at a much cheaper price.

I was a bit surprised that you didn't know what a peg bag was. They are definitely welknown here and come in all kinds from bags to baskets. Loving your bags today and the rocking horse journal is brilliant. Wishing you a very happy and creative woyww. Hugs, Angela x9x

I loved seeing your clothes pin bag, especially the story about your grandmother’s version as well, thank you for letting us see that. Mine are more functional than fun I guess, it’s all about the fabric for me - I designed my own version with a deeper bottom bit as I have a lot of pegs and it’s easy to get access. Loved the rocking horse journal too and I enjoyed seeing all the photos! The fact that the horses have printed at different densities adds to the appeal!

Oh wow your peg (clothes pin) bag is super. Funny how our language differs slightly and even enough to confuse the other. My son tends to use a lot of Americanisms, I guess from watching TV programmes (shows). All life's rich tapestry which brings me on to the adorable Rocking Horse Journal. Adore the sun dyed images and all the special elements on the spine so much thought and attention, love it. And Yes power washers are "brutal" on grass, like that word. Hugs BJ#13

It wasn't that long a post, and all entirely relevant! The journal is fab, I do love the sun dyeing and the colours are just sublime. I love the pencil and paintbrush spine...I would never have thought that way, makes it such a unique piece! Poor Wendy is getting heavier without choice. Luckily I won't be changing the logo for the pins again anytime soon! Isn't the peg/clothes pin thing interesting, and I do love the design of yours, it's pretty. I don't use one...I'm driven mad by the hole NEVER being big enough, my pegs are in a watertight plastic box. Practical yes. Ugly, though! I hope all is recovered after the flood and that your adequately rested after the digging. Even Mr Dunnit said it would have been better for us to live near enough to come and help when I told him. You're very intrepid!

Its a while since I called by Elizabeth, but as always I am in awe of all the wonderful art work you have shared and to read the posts together is inspiring. All I need to be able to do is connect the hands to do the creating I would like them to do without creating their own mess.
Hope you are well.

A fun post. Your journal is lovely and full of fiber and details. It's had to keep a post short when there is lots on your work desk! I think we are all in the same boat- lots of creative things to look at and enjoy. I enjoyed yours.

What a cute peg bag! We don't have clotheslines at this house, but I used to. My peg bag wasn't near as cute as yours! I love your sun dyed journal cover! I have never done anything like that before, it looks awesome! As far as long posts go, I think I am the Queen of those, and I haven't been kicked off yet! Thanks for your visit, Lindart #17

Love the journal, and I thank you for the inspiration. I've wanted to do a fabric journal for some time, and your post reminded me of that. So now it's back on the active list, to start between the garden 'n' pantry tasks, after I complete my wool projects. TY!
