WOYWW 729

It's time to join our head desker and all around caring and thoughtful host, Julia at Stamping Ground for the latest edition of What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday.

I have a desire to work with my die cutter this evening.  I guess because I want to keep my table clean a bit longer.

These blocks/plates are getting really well used, but I refuse to buy replacements because I saw the cost of new ones.

I'm trying to figure how to use these on the plates.  I should have written down the instructions.

As you can see, I was unsuccessful.  The orange foam was supposed to be the part that was cut.  When I moved the orange foam from the plate, I also moved the dies.  I can see why I was told a magnetic plate was needed for this operation.

At least I know how to use the thinlets.  This die is well used.

In case you weren't aware, the name of the thinlet is my required rocking horse of the week!

Now let's head over to Julia's and snoop, enable, exchange ideas, and share in the friendship that only WOYWW can provide.

I have several dies that are reluctant to cut. I hope that at some stage you can get a magnetic plate to help. Happy WOYWW Helen #1

I think I may have the same thinlet somewhere Elizabeth. Hope you manage to work out the plate sandwich to use those dies. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #3

It’s always interesting to see die cutting in action because I still don’t completely get how you decide which shims to use and why freezer paper is sometimes in the mix as well! Give me fabric and a sewing machine anyway, lol! Hope your shoulder is better btw.

I think cutting foam isn't easy at the best of times. Maybe it's a bit thick. Anyway, you can tape the dies into position on the foam and try adding shims of card (not for cutting so between other plates or under non cutting side of dies) if the plate sandwich isn't think enough to compress the foam. Just a few suggestions to maybe help the situation. BJ Cuttlebug fan #17

I've had to write notes for even the mnost basic die cutting as I only have to not use the machine for a few weeks and I've forgotten which sandwich to use!
I also begrudge paying the price for new plates, I think they are way more than they should be so like you I'm using mine until they've completely had it! Good luck with the foam, that's something I've never cut with the die machine before, so wouldn't know where to start but I do use tape to hold my dies down so that might work rather than a magnetic plate.
Have a great week,

Have fun with your diecutting . . . I love mine but have never tried foam. I have some stashed 'somewhere', takes time to find them!!
I have a simple system, put the die between two plastic sheets and press the button!!
Have a good week

I've been cleaning out my craft room and will probably be dumping things I don't use anymore if they don't sell at the yard sale. I wish postage wasn't so expensive. I'd send it to you and a few others I KNOW would use it!

Hi Elizabeth, I've had problems in the past with dies not cutting but since getting my Sizzix Big Shot I don't have problems with any make of dies but they do supply all the plates and additional tools that you could possibly need and the magnetic plate is a God send, don't know how I would manage without it now. Wishing you a very happy and creative woyww, Angela x13x

Hello Elizabeth, thanks for your earlier visit - yes it was really nice to get so much happy mail for the anniversary. Your die cutting issue must be down to pressure, best thing is to try adding a shim or two. Good Luck!! Had a fantastic afternoon with Lionel yesterday, he is really starting to interact and is so smiley. This nanny gig is growing on me. Have a good week, love n hugs Cindyxx

Sorry I am so late visiting, the torn muscle has been horrible on top of everything else.
I usually find dies like this cut fairly easily if you use the correct plates but if not try adding a shim on top.
Take care
