Recycle, Reuse, Repurpose

First, Bleubeard and I want to thank Valerie for being a fabulous host in March.  Thank you Valerie for not only being a great host, but also for being an integral part of Art Journal Journey.

Every year in April, I celebrate Earth Day from April 1 through April 22, which just happens to be bEARTHday in my world.  I always start by explaining that I recycle, reuse, reduce, rethink, re-invent, redesign, re-craft, recover, restore, rebuild, revamp, reclaim, and/or repurpose something to keep it out of the landfill.  I also respect the earth and all its many resources.

To begin, this is NO April Fools Day post!  This year, Bleubeard and I are hosting Art Journal Journey and have simplified the above list a bit.  We plan to recycle, reuse, and repurpose and we hope you will, too.  Recycle part or all of that beloved birthday or Christmas card, reuse those patterned security envelopes, repurpose those cardboard boxes Amazon is so famous for, or those 512 used tea bags you’ve been holding onto.  Turn them into collage fodder for your art journals.  While you’re at it, please let us know what you recycled in your entry.   Whether it's a tiny bit or an entire entry, we really want to know so we can applaud your efforts!

I have named this Le coq, French for rooster.

Because we are hosting Art Journal Journey in April, Bleubeard and I want to welcome you and hope you will create something in your art journals that will meet the recycle, reuse, or repurpose concept.

For my first entry, I recycled a large used security envelope, two corrugated cardboard pieces, part of a thesaurus page from a set I picked up one year when we had our annual neighborhood cleanup, a tea bag, a fortune, a leftover circle, a leftover foreign (French) square, and the Le coq, which was fussy cut from a gifted playing card.  These were all sewn in place with new thread.

I have a few detail shots to share.

Chris, Erika, Valerie, Bleubeard, and I are delighted you joined us and hope to see you this month at Art Journal Journey as you Recycle, Reuse, and/or Repupose in your art journals.

We welcome art journal pages that meet the theme requirements, altered book pages, canvases, loose, or stand alone pages including fabric and digital art.  We cannot leave comments on Facebook or Instagram entries.  We do not allow cards, tags, index cards, ATCs, or ATCoins, unless they are part of a journal page, and as much as we don't want to, will be forced to delete your entry.  Please remember if your blog is not in English, you must either provide a translation tool or translate it for us.  Hope to see you soon at Art Journal Journey.  Don't forget to tell us what you recycled on your journal page, please.

I love this page. That rooster is really a standout on the background papers you used. The textures are super and the stitching, besides adding more texture, looks great. This is a really fun way to start the month. My early morning flight was canceled due to storms they're having down south so I'll be flying later this morning, but the good news is that it gives me time to stop by and visit your blog. Have a wonderful start to the month and the next few days. hugs-Erika

That is an awesome piece Elizabeth! I just love the composition and the fact that your recycled.. also a big passion of mine. Several pieces i entered in the stock show this year are recycled or reused.. Most faired well in competition some didn't .. judges are not too impressed with my recycling...lol.. Hugs! deb

Fun page. I like the rooster to wake up the idea of recycling.

Our commitment now for responsible trashing is to try to compost our garbage rather than throw it away. Our town has been doing it for a few months, so we are a bit late to join in. It’s not as interesting as making art work out of potential trash or recycling! Nothing to photograph.

Fabulous project page Elizabeth, you are an inspiration to us all on the art of recycling. As always I enjoyed my weekly catch up and have good intentions to get crafting again, but health and family must come first with me these days.
Stay safe and well.

Elizabeth, I love how you celebrate Earth Day from April 1 through April 22, and all year round!! And I really like the amazing and meaningful page you created here. "Le coq" is an absolutely beautiful focal point and all of your recycled pieces just go beautifully together. Your stitching adds a special touch, too. Thanks so much for hosting this month!! And thank you for your wonderfully kind words that you left at my blog. They are very much appreciated. Hugs, Sharon

It's a brilliant new theme, and a really great piece of recycle art to start it off Elizabeth.

I love your chicken. Tea bag art is very interesting and fun. The chicken scratch surface reminded me of how someone in Sketchbook Revival used her envelope as a background for her chicken paintings -- and the marks looked like chicken scratches!

How fun is this. Love the pencil and rooster and how much recycling/upcycling you got into this one page. The words are empowering too. Great page and great theme, Elizabeth! Hugz

This an absolutely brilliant example for your theme this month AJJ! Yes, I am back to comment having suffered train cancelations on the way back from Paris, extreme tiredness on Wednesday and then doing a round trip of 170 miles to my Uncle's funeral yesterday. I love this Elizabeth, A fabulous combination of different elements and your sewing too! Looking forward to this month! Hugs, Chrisx
