T Stands For Tea with Ian McNeice (Part 3)

Although this is the time of year I normally do a review of my favorite T Tuesday posts from the previous year, I want to share this final Tea with Ian McNeice.

Victor Hogstrom, President and CEO of PBS Kansas has just introduced Ian McNeice to the audience.  We've already consumed tea and cookies.

Victor had a list of questions that had been given to him in advance.

One of the first things asked was how Ian got along with his onscreen son, Joe Absolom.  He said he thought of him as another son.  Apparently they are quite close.  He told about the time they were running the restaurant in Portwenn, the fictional Cornish town in which the the show takes place.  Two American tourists came into the restaurant area while the crew was taking a break.  They asked for reservations and "Bert" (Ian's character) told them he would put them down for 8 p.m..  "Al" (Absolum) asked why he told them that.  Bert said because the crew would be gone by then and the tourists would soon learn they had been tricked.  OK, it is NOT as funny as Ian told it.

Ian talked about playing a Cornish plumber.  He said he never quite got the accent down right, but it was close.  He also joked if he'd gotten the accent perfect, we Americans would never have understood a word he or anyone said.

He talked about playing Albert Fezziwig in A Christmas Carol.

Then others asked him questions, one of which was

playing Dr. Burgess in Season 4 of Midsomer Murders.  He said how welcoming John Nettles (DCI Tom Barnaby) was.  He said the entire crew made him feel at home.  The title of the episode was Who Killed Cock Robin?

 

Later, when he was signing our cups, I asked him how the crew treated and worked around the pandemic.  He said the entire crew was shut down and sheltered in place for 404 days.  

 

Now to share the cookies we had.  This was NOT a formal Tea, but a get together over tea.
