Friday Smiles 472: Herb Day and herb gardening (very long and photo heavy)

I want to begin by saying I am having trouble leaving comments on certain blogs.  Embedded comments are the hardest.  I assure you, I am visiting, but after three tries, I give up.  PLEASE be aware I CARE.  I care about your blog posts and the wonderful words, photos, and art you are sharing.  I also care that you know I was by to visit.

Today I'm joining Friday Smiles which is hosted by Annie (at A Stitch in Time).   Let's visit her and the other wonderful ladies who also share their smiles each Friday.  I told you last week I had hoped to work in my herb garden and show photos, but that didn't happen.   I am going to share those photos now, so you can see how much has changed in a week!

I thought I was buying sage.  Imagine my surprise when I got it home and read that it is Lamb's Ear and for decoration only.

For those of you who are wondering why I am growing these herbs on heavy black plastic, it is because, since I don't own a panda, I am trying to make sure very invasive bamboo is stifled.  According to several sites, this could take a minimum of two years to get rid of this bamboo.

This pot was so heavy, when I tried to lift it over the black plastic, it just pushed the plastic back.  It's a licorice plant.

This is my catnip that overwintered indoors.

Mint that overwintered outside.

Dead basil not harvested before the last freeze/frost.

Overwintered on my table.  Some signs of life.  And then it was time to mow before heading to Herb Day!

This is where I bought some of my herbs.

Moving on.

I stopped taking photos because I was drawing too much attention to myself.  BTW, I was the ONLY person there who was wearing a mask.

I skipped this because I don't need more tools or garden fru-frus.

Some of you were here for Food Wednesday, where I showed the herbs I purchased

on Herb Day.  You can see there are quite a few of these herbs I was unable to find.

Now it was time to pot some of these plants.  The observant person can tell I have already planted the plants I purchased at our local nursery.

I asked on Food Wednesday if anyone knew what this plant was after PlantNet wasn't able to give a definitive answer.  I have decided it is a weed and I have now gotten rid of it.  However, if anyone knows what this plant is, please let me know.

These are the only plants on my table now.  The cilantro and dill in these pots overwintered outside.

All pots have now been cleaned out and most have new plants.  Because this post is already long enough, I will just share the pots from right to left.  I will show what is in each at a later time, more than likely next Friday.

I hope to have everything planted and cleaned up by next Friday.

I want to create a more friendly and welcoming spot this year.

As I was cleaning out the cilantro pot, I saw this.  It is a coriander seed that is creating a cilantro plant.

That's it for me today.  There will be no funnies, since this post is too long already.  Thanks for visiting and spending a bit of time with Bleubeard and me this Friday.  Now PLEASE visit Annie and don't forget to start your weekend with a smile.  And please remember, if you are on my left sidebar, I visit you even if Blogger won't let me leave comments.

Photo heavy it might be (and I am often guilty on that front), but I loved it all.
Thank you.
I find that I often cannot comment on blogs with embedded comments until I open a new tab (anything will do) while keeping the blog I want to comment on open. When I go back to the blog I can comment again. It is a pain - but it works for me.

A lot of folk seem to be having trouble publishing comments at the minute. Hopefully bloger will sort itself out soon.
I would love to wander round your herb market. There were lots of interesting plants to see. You have a good supply in your own garden too. Do you actually use them all? I didn't know cilantro could over winter outside. I wonder whether it can actually withstand our very hot summers.
Keep working on the bamboo. You seem to be winning so far.
have a good week. Kate x

It's interesting about the embedded comment boxes, I changed mine and now I understand how much easier they are for several reasons. They are easy to change but I guess some people are nervous to go into the settings are start fiddling! Loving the photos today. I really understand the Bamboo thing, they are so invasive once they get going. The gardeners market looks good but it's probably better that I'm not there or I'd be tempted to buy loads. Have alovely weekend, hugs Angela xXx

Lamb's Ear! Never heard that, at least it looks good.
Licorice plant? Ohhhh, that sounds yummy.
Looks like a great market. And treasures...
The cheating sure made me smile.

We went herb shopping yesterday. Our local outdoor herb seller is located in a parking lot each summer -- giving them tons of space for annuals and vegetable garden plants. The colors are fabulous. Their herb selection included many old-fashioned herbs that I've only heard of in literature, like rue and pennyroyal. Also many many varieties of mint and other herbs.

Good luck getting your herbs to grow and your bamboo to stop growing.

I’m glad I’m not the only one struggling with leaving comments. Like you, I visit all the blogs but several of them won’t let me comment.
Love all your herbs. Do you use them all for your cooking?
Hugs,

I'm almost sure your weed is a goldenrod. I pull them out like crazy this time of year. Your comments do appear on my blog-but it looks like you are having trouble leaving a comment. Your garden is off to a wonderful start.

Lovely post, Elizabeth! I have a herb garden too so was most interested in yours. I have heard that bamboo is incredibly invasive. Such a pity you don't have a panda! You're growing a few herbs that I haven't got here, e.g. cilantro which I believe we call coriander here. I rarely use it in cooking. I look forward to next wee to see how your getting on with it all. I do hope this comment reaches you okay. Meows to Bleubeard from Silver. Have a great week. Elizabeth x

Wonderful to see all your pots of herbs and one lambs ear! A variety of that lambs ear grew wild in Arkansas.. I would often encourage my granddaughter to 'pet it' as i like to do that too.. so soft.. I seem to manage to leave a comment on most blogs... a problem does pop up now and then... Hugs! deb

Yes, there are certain blogs I have to switch to a different browser. I love seeing all of your photos about gardening. Your herbs look great and will do well on the black. Yes, it may take years to get rid of bamboo. Have a very lovely day.

Herb Day looks like a fun place to shop. I know you showed us your plants, and it is great to see them being planted. Definitely better than that out of control bamboo. And I also noticed your long hose. I need on of those extensions to reach the bee garden I am working on. It's looking great. Hope your having fun and not sweating too much. Smile. (I moved plants today from my living room out to the deck and I was certainly sweating.) hugs-Erika

Your herb patch is beginning to look great. A good way to keep the dreaded bamboo at bay.
I enjoyed seeing the market. Lots of flowers and plants and herbs of course. You bought quite a collection. It will look great and enhance your meals too. (and catnip for the boys) I don't know if they have catnip here in Spain. I had never heard of it. Do your cats eat it? I mean do you give them the leaves in their food or do they nibble it? I was told cats love it.
Now the weather is getting more summery, those plants will grow very quickly. I hope you will take some more photos when everything has grown.
Have a nice weekend,
Lisca

Hi Elizabeth, I saw your question about the building. They are going to be a variety of houses, flats and Bungalows. The big white building is just temporary offices for the building company. They have just finished making the road so things are moving on a bit. Oh and yes, that is an Easter cacti though it also tends to flower before Christmas too. Take care my friend and have alovely week. Hugs, Angela xXx

It looks like a very productive market day -- and a productive gardening day, too. I love gardens in pots -- it makes them so much easier to manage. Less weeding and you can move them around. And herbs are the best. So fresh and you can still have them dried later. Lovely post!

Herb Day! I'd be in hog heaven :) I know bamboo is persistent but you sound like you have a good plan for defeating it. Congratulations on a great garden spot!

I missed herb day. But I am trying to do "No Mow May" which I just learned about. (I'm going to mow around the edges, etc., but leave the ground cover flowers unmowed until they're done blooming.)

I'm having problems leaving comments, also. It has been going on for a few weeks now, and Google still hasn't fixed it. (I also received comments on my blog, that Google put in the Spam folder, which I didn't know at first. Now I look in there, to make sure comments aren't in there when they shouldn't be.)
