Vaccinated

I'm back once again with another entry at Art Journal Journey using Wendy's Vintage theme.

Did you think this was about me being vaccinated?  Not at all.  In fact, I'm nearly ready for a booster!

 

It's about the first documented vaccination against smallpox. 

Here's what I wrote in case you need it translated:

Smallpox was the scourge of the 18th Century and a destroyer of humanity. It was so common during childhood, this disease became known as the disease of children.

Enter Edward Jenner, a medical student at the time, who after learning one of his patients said he could not get smallpox because he had cowpox and survived, Jenner experimented and found cowpox did indeed keep children from getting smallpox. He performed the first vaccination ever on eight year old James Phipps as shown in this old print.

I began this page, created on 110 lb cardstock, with my current go-to background of a few drops of black Staz-on reinker mixed with 91% isopropyl alcohol.  I computer generated the text and sewed it along with the image I found in my Collage Two altered book to black cardstock using black, gray, and white variegated thread.  Yes, I'm having tension problems with my top thread.
