I'm back once again with another entry at Art Journal Journey using Wendy's Vintage theme.
Did you think this was about me being vaccinated? Not at all. In fact, I'm nearly ready for a booster!
Smallpox was the scourge of the 18th Century and a destroyer of humanity. It was so common during childhood, this disease became known as the disease of children.
Enter Edward Jenner, a medical student at the time, who after learning one of his patients said he could not get smallpox because he had cowpox and survived, Jenner experimented and found cowpox did indeed keep children from getting smallpox. He performed the first vaccination ever on eight year old James Phipps as shown in this old print.
I began this page, created on 110 lb cardstock, with my current go-to background of a few drops of black Staz-on reinker mixed
with 91% isopropyl alcohol. I computer generated the text and sewed it along with the image I found in my Collage Two altered book to black cardstock using black, gray, and white variegated thread. Yes, I'm having tension problems with my top thread.
Thank you ever so much for visiting today. Bleubeard and I
are simply thrilled you dropped by and hope to see you soon at Art Journal Journey with your own take on Vintage.

Interesting and sooo many stitches, very fitting!
Great page Elizabeth. At school we were taught how privileged we were to get vaccines and stay safe from deadly illnesses. Some people need to lern this today! Have a great week, hugs, Valerie
Interesting for sure. Yes, I do have magic scissors, my scan and cut machine. xx
All praise to Dr Jenner - and your celebration of his work.
Elizabeth, you are a mine of information and I love how you combine it into your artwork. That's a fabulous drawing you have found of the first smallpox vaccine. So appropriate in this world of today where every day on tv we have news on how many have been vaccinated against this dreaded pandemic.
Hugs, Neet xx
I’m slowing down on blogging, but yes, this caught my eye when I saw the word vaccination. It’s very informative and an important work of art!
I really love the look of this vintage theme, and the info is very interesting. I've been trying to find more vintage-themed stickers as well. Now that I've turned 60, it seems like the fun thing to do!(lol) Hope you're doing well, and sending lots of hugs, RO
Vintage and yet, still timely information about following the science
Without vaccines we'd all be in a world of a mess -- if we made it this far. Very timely page!
Edward Jenner was a leader in medicine at his time. What science learned from him was important. I agree with Valerie. More people need to believe in science than in all the misinformation being put out there by people who really don't know what they are talking about. Great page for Wendy's challenge too! Hugs-Erika
vaccines are life changing for sure
Cool. Thanks
An interesting page! I'm getting my booster soon too Elizabeth.
A very informative page Elizabeth, I didn't know that was how the vaccine was discovered. Thank you for another great page for my theme on AJJ
Hugs Wendy.
A great page and very interesting.
Thank you.
All the best Jan
