Rain's Thursday Art Date or TAD

It's time to join Rain's TAD.  This week the theme is Pop Art.  Unlike last week, where I was willing to create something, this week I leave it to the professional artists whose works are located at the Wichita (Kansas) Art Museum, or WAM.

I'm not sure if this is actually pop art, but it reminded me of it.  You might be able to see the title at the bottom of the painting.  It is called Migrants Cast Their Ballots.  It was painted by Jacob Lawrence and dated 1919.

I'm fairly certain this is Pop Art.  It's called Tobacco Rhoda and was painted by Mel Ramos.

I'm sure many know this is a Roy Lichtenstein.  It is called Reverie.

This is called Custom Print 1 by Peter Phillips.

This serigraph is called Ten Days and was created by James Rosenquist.

This is called Signs and the artist is Robert Rauschenberg.  To me, it has a very mid-century vibe.

And finally, a page from my Hands altered book.

Albert is so iconic, you can't help feeling the Pop Art vibe.

Art from my altered book was created by me.  Art from WAM was not!

Thanks for dropping by today.   Bleubeard is delighted to be back playing with Rain and her fur babies, especially Leo, who could easily be mistaken for Bleubeard.  Now let's head over to Rain's Thursday Art Date and see what Pop Art others have gathered or created.

A grand selection Elizabeth, the first i'd definitely say was in the style of pop art with it's block colours, so much to look at in that piece. It's not a style i'm over confident with, makes me want to add in all those extra details. I especially love the collage vintage piece it sums up the 60's fabulously.
Happy TAD Hugs Tracey x

Great selection of art Elizabeth, you found some fun pieces in your museum. And I love the Albert Einstein piece, my fave today. Have a wonderful day, take care, hugs, Valerie

Very, very cool artworks, theirs and yours.
My favorite is Philip Morris, very weird and cool, great colors, too.

A great selection of Pop Art there for us to look at Elizabeth. Not really a period I think of when thinking of art as a subject. Must be my age!
Love your hands, especially the one with the eye peering out - very clever that.
I think when we have had a busy period our mojo tends to go on holiday for a bit of a rest but it comes back, am hoping mine does pretty soon as I am away at the moment but have brought some images to colour. That often works for me.
Hugs to all xxx

Elizabeth,

I enjoyed your take on this week's theme. The examples are excellent. I recognize artists Mel Ramos and Roy Litchtenstein. However, your personal creation is the best! I think if Albert Einstein were alive, he'd get a kick out of it. I've read that he had a good sense of humor. :) I hope you're now feeling much, much better!

Wonderful selection of art. I like your hands with the eye peeking out. Albert is popular here, too. Himself has an Albert Einstein bobblehead thought it looks a little more like Mark Twain

My favourite is YOUR pop art of Einstein, especially the first one!

It's interesting how you have used such nice images to define Pop Art, which started in the 1950s and is usually said to have been characterized by certain artists, styles, and subject matter. I like your examples.

BTW: The famous artist Jacob Lawrence (1917-2000) actually painted "Migrants Cast their Ballots in 1974, not 1919.

Nice pop art Elizabeth. It's fun to see the one at the museum, and also you Albert Einstein and hands ones. The one with the naked lady on the cigarettes looks like an ad in a men's magazine, doesn't it?

The naked tobacco girl was quite a shock--LOL! :)

I wonder if your first piece has a political suggestion. These are all wonderful Pop Art examples and I think your Wichita Art Museum is quite impressive. If the second piece were an ad for Philip Morris, I think most of the males in the US would be smokers ... she is, after all, smoking hot :). My favorite is, for some reason, the nails and bobby pins. It just struck me (maybe the bobby pins bring back memories :). I love Albert peeking through your hands as well ... Great job Elizabeth. And yes, Bleubeard could pass as Leo or as my Fonzi, who is no longer with us and yes, he is a handsome boy. Have a wonderful and safe week, Elizabeth ...

This is a great collection of Pop Art, Elizabeth. I really connected with Signs which contains so many images from the turbulent Sixties when I was a teenager. The Philip Morris one is brilliant, and so Pop Art. Happy weekend to you!

Hi Elizabeth!! I LOVE this post!!! You got the theme down pat. Those are some great Pop Art pieces and I love yours, it definitely has that feel to it! Love Tobacco Rhoda!!! Leo says mew mew meow meow to Bleubeard...I don't know what it means but I'm guessing Bleubeard will understand. ☺
