Flag Day in the U.S.A.

 

Today is a National Holiday in the United States.  It is NOT, however, a Federal Holiday.  That means all federal and most state buildings, including the post office, will be open for business.

As you can probably read:

"Flag Day is celebrated every June 14.  It is considered a National Holiday, but not a Federal Holiday." 

For some reason, I can't get the quotes icon to work tonight.

Less than a year after declaring our independence from Great Britain, the Second Continental Congress adopted a national flag on June 14, 1777. 

In the midst of the Revolutionary War, colonial troops fought under many different flags with various symbols.  Rattlesnakes, pine trees, and eagle flags, as well as slogans such as “Don’t Tread on Me,” “Liberty or Death,” and “Conquer or Die,” were just a few I could find.

The Declaration of Independence made the adoption of an American flag necessary. Previously, each colony or special interest had its own flag.

The first American flag was designed to represent the 13 original colonies with 13 white stars on a blue field and 13 alternating red and white stripes.  One of the first flag designs had the stars arranged in a circle, based on the idea that all colonies were equal. 

Today, there are 50 stars, one for each state in the union, but the 13 stripes remain.

Now the quotes icon is working.  Blogger is annoying me to no end.

For this page, I began with two colors of Staz-on solvent reinkers, to which I added isopropyl alcohol.  I added computer generated text to which I lined with red and blue felt tipped pens.  I also added the flag and three butterfly stickers.
