Friday Smiles 381: back to the Eisenhower Museum

It's Friday, so let's join Annie (at A Stitch in Time) along with the wonderful ladies at Friday Smiles.

This is where we left off two weeks ago.  Sorry the photo is fuzzy.  Or maybe it's just my eye that's fuzzy.

Things begin moving quickly now the war has started.   Ike arrived in London in May, 1942 to study joint defense.

In June, he was appointed Commander of the European Theater of Operations.

He received a temporary promotion to lieutenant general in July.

On November 8 Ike commanded the Allied invasion of North Africa.

Operation Torch was a disaster.   It was at that time Ike led the American and British forces in Operation Torch, an invasion of Axis-held North Africa.  Although he tried to put a positive spin on it, it was a disaster that could have derailed his career.

When he first faced the Germans in Tunisia in February 1943, his forces took a brutal beating in the battle of the Kasserine Pass. The battle is regarded by some as the most humiliating U.S. combat setback in World War II, with American forces suffering more than 6,000 casualties.

The loss was so devastating that British allies began to question Americans’ ability to fight. But after figuring out what had gone wrong, Ike made sweeping corrections. He reorganized his forces to work together in a more cohesive fashion, restructured his intelligence corp, and brought in the aggressive Gen. George S. Patton.  Patton turned out to be the perfect man to retrain the troops in Tunisia.

More next week.  Now for this week's ICADs (Index Card A Day):

We needed more time to celebrate Squiggles' birthday

Play with me

The Victorian beauty

Lots of threes!

Fetish!

Charlie's the star

The 2020 Crisis
Thanks for your visit today.  I appreciate it, as does Bleubeard.  Please let me know if you like any of these ICADs.   Just one more week and this year's ICADs will be completed for another year.

Now let's head over to Annie's because she knows how to put a smile on everyone's faces.  And whatever you do, please don't forget to start your weekend off right with a few Friday Smiles of your own.  And remember, if you would like to play along, Annie would love to have you join us.

6,000 lifes for nothing. Plus wifes, kids, siblings, mothers, fathers, oh, what for. I didn´t even leanr this at school or I forgot about another awful thing.
I certainly loved the first ICAD most :-)
The last one, well. "History" will - like "Corinna" have to jump from country to country to "judge", I guess. Or even from city to city! Or even group to group...

Fun ICADs again Elizabeth. I like the paw print fabric on Squiggle's one. The last one poses a very good question. I am not sure any of us will come out of it with a great deal of pride, though certainly with a degree of relief.

As always I really enjoyed the visit to the museum. I didn't know that Ike's Operation Torch was a disaster. I don't seem to remember reading about that. (WWII was not in our history books yet when I went to school, so what I know about the war is from my older family members and through reading books about the war.)
Your ICADs are great. I didn't know Squiggles had had a birthday. How old is he/she now?
Have a lovely weekend,
Lisca

Thank you for sharing all the interesting photos and history of the museum- I enjoy it.
Love the variations of your cards -different moods, different styles! My fave this week is "fetish"- (and no I don't have a fetish that I'm aware of:)
Although as you know I LOVE color, there's something about this one that really draws me in-like the texture, sewing and eye pleasing composition, not to mention the dictionary words in the circle. Hope it's not too hot for you- we're starting on another heat wave here...

Another great week of ICAD - I forgot to drop by Friday so I hope you see this. Love “Fetish!”. Great continuity of colour and of course - circle. Three of a kind - those great British stamps are among my favourite as I’m sure you know. They are so rich in colour. There’s a lot to unpack in the dueling unicorns - they look so sweet but when you read the words. Great card. And of course happy BD again Squiggles - I’m glad you extended his party. :)
