We also have a new host at Art Journal Journey.  It is my friend Chris at Pear Shaped Crafting, our host this month at Art Journal Journey.  Her theme is We're all/(with the option) going.  What a coincidence, since today we are going to Greenland.

Nuuk is Greenland's capital.  It is also the largest city with approximately 18,000 residents.  To make matters even more amazing, Greenland is the world's largest island.  It is located a few miles east of Canada.

Nuuk is famous for its fjord.  This intricate water system is the second largest in the world. Nuuk is also famous for its beautiful panoramic mountain that is called Ukkusissaq, which means "soap stone."  

The architecture is similar to the photo.  Many people live in these colorful houses that meet the icy waters right on the fjord below.

The Danish krone or kroner (DKK) is the official currency in all of Greenland, including Nuuk. 

Don't forget to watch for the Northern Lights, which are best seen in December and January of every year in Nuuk.  It's a free light show, where all you have to do is show up once it's dark!

An interesting fact is there are no roads in Greenland.  You either go to other cities by helicopter, small plane, boat (with limited access and itineraries), or dog sled.

For this page I created in my Challenges altered book, I started with a sheet of black card stock I cut to size.  I added several colors of Twinkling H20s.  The top H20s are supposed to represent the Northern Lights, while the bottom is intended to be the fjord.  When dry, I inked a rubber stamp with Versamark, then embossed the page using copper embossing powder.  An image from a travel magazine became the focal image, and I hand wrote the name of the city and country using a metallic gel pen.
