Spring has arrived

Today I'm joining Valerie and her design team at Tag Tuesday, whose theme is Birds, nests, and eggs, as well as the team at Try it on Tuesday whose theme is Use a stencil or two.

I kept promising Valerie I would join this challenge, but needed to think of a way I could do it and still honor my recycling efforts.  It didn't take long to come up with a plan, though.   On my work table I have a used file folder, given to me when my friend Sally closed her office after she retired.  I believe these multiply as I sleep, because I still have a plethora of them.  I also still have leftover homemade texture paste.  I felt sure I had not made too much, but obviously I had.  I did NOT want to waste it, so I decided to use it with the wonderful brick wall stencil my friend Mia sent me.  I always save my leftover bits of thread I cut from the dangles or when I have to remove unwanted thread. This box is starting to overflow, so I was excited to use a few of these castoffs.

Using white glue and bits of thread from my saved thread box, I shaped a bird's nest.  I allowed it to dry on the plastic sheet protector I've been using and recycling.

Here is the final tag.  I call it Spring has arrived.

Two birds, both colored using dye inks, were added to the page.  The bow at the top was taken from another project.

The nest, now dry, is filled with colorful eggs.

The nest sits on a piece of bamboo from my yard that I colored using brown water soluble crayons.

I thought the wall looked a bit lonely, so I found a gifted die cut I had removed from another project when it didn't work.

The "grass" at the bottom of the wall was made using

two colors of water soluble crayons.  The texture paste was starting to get chalky, but I liked the texture because I thought it looked more like a real wall.

A couple of detail shots, this one showing the blue sky I created using two colors of water soluble crayons.

This is Day 5 of 22 leading up to bEARTHday where I recycled a used file folder, used more of my handmade texture paste, created a bird nest using bits of thread and cuttings from my thread box, and cut a piece of last year's bamboo from my yard.

Thank you for visiting today.  I am very grateful you are following along on this recycling journey with me.  I also hope you will join me at Tag Tuesday and Try it on Tuesday, too.

That's a wonderful tag, love all the details, and the nest is fantastic. My hair looks like that this morning, but without the eggs.... Great idea with the threads. The brick-wall looks good, too. This was a lovely morning surprise, fitting to the birds on my balcony eating their peanuts. Thanks so much for joining us at Tag Tuesday, Valerie
By the was, I know what you mean about things multiplying while you sleep. My paper stash does this all the time!

The brick wall stencil is fabulous and I love the bird's nest you made with your bits of thread. You're certainly a great recycler Elizabeth, using all the bits in pieces for your art.

Love that idea for the birds' nest, Elisabeth. The brick wall looks wonderful, too. I always love the idea of plants springing up around brick walls, where they weren't actually planted, surprising everyone and annoying those who love everything pristine and sterile.
Love your recycling and the birds. Great page.
Thank you so much for sharing with us at Try it on Tuesday for our Use a Stencil or Two challenge.

Sorry to have been missing for so long - it's been a busy old time. I'm so happy to be back to catch this glimpse of springtime. Your colourful birds with their rainbow eggs have made me smile. I love the rugged tangle of their nest, perched at that slightly worrying angle. Like the ospreys with which my mother is obsessed (she keeps tracks of at least three different live camera feeds at nesting time), these birds clearly take great care over choosing the ingredients they build with!

Great texture on the bricks, and your recycling is admirable. The only trouble with recycling for crafting is the storage space needed for keeping everything!!

That is an awesome nest! And a good way not to waste those end threads. Your tag came out really cool. The stenciled bricks make a good base and I love the stick too. Hope all life is well today. Hugs-Erika

I love this idea for making a nest! I tried to make one with little twigs, and it didn't go well lol The brick stencil is a good design, perfect for the nest background. It's a good thing my car's still in the shop or your recycled art might have me going to the craft store ;) As it is, I'll just hafta recycle what's here...

I thought I have left a message on this post, Elizabeth, but as it seems I did not. I love your beautiful tag and the way you used thread to make the next. And I am really happy to see that you love using the brick wall stencil. Hugs, my friend.

Brilliant! I love the idea of birds using bits that have been left for them! My Gran used to put out her leftover bits of wool and cotton( before the days of synthetic fibres being so popular) for the birds in the Spring and then watch as the birds flew off with them! I think she used to empty her hairbrush too! Your birds quite clearly have been somewhere like her garden! Thank you so much for joining us at Try It On Tuesday as well as reminding me of my Gran!
