Last week was haircut day. Not for me, although I certainly need one, but for my herbs.

Let's start on the far left and work our way from there. I bought three lavender plants this year and have killed two of them already. One is still surviving, but not thriving.

My very expensive lemon grass is wedged between two pots of oregano that I cut back. The lemon grass kept falling over due to our high winds, so I gave it a bit of help standing up.

The large beige pot holds thyme, which overwinters outside thanks to Erika's advice. The dark brown pot to the right is lemon thyme. Although it may not appear as such, it got a haircut, too. The black pot in the center is thyme I purchased this year.

The two white pots on the right are rosemary. The plant in the larger pot got the haircut.

The large white pot in back on the right is comfrey.

This is a better view of the comfrey. The bee balm/bergamot that has overwintered two winters seems to have died. I have no idea why. It's sad. In front are my chives before I used nearly half the bunch in a salad I made. Another rosemary sits behind the chives.

As you can see, I cut a great deal of the sage. All three pots (the two terracotta colors and the black) received drastic cuts, even though they don't look like I removed much.

The two white pots are milkweed which have never flowered.
I believe I will leave the rest for another day. Thanks for joining me in my herb garden. I hope I didn't bore you.
And because I need a face,

I give you the face of our blog, the charming and handsome Bleubeard hanging out with me in the basement studio. Also, please join us at

these two art blogs.

Happy Friday Elizabeth. Thanks for linking to AFFF
Much love
To keep pots from blowing over, I put some large stones in the bottom of the pot before I put the plant in.
Good for you that you have fresh herbs! I have difficulty buying fresh herbs here in the shops. The garden centre is not allowed to sell herbs as it is 'food'. They refer me to the farm shop but they are not interested. They sell to farmers. I can get seeds but am not very good at growing stuff from seed. I can get cilantro, parsley and mint. Rosemary, oregano, basil etc grows wild here so no problem there. But I can't get dill for instance(nice in salads as you say) nor spring onions (scallions in American English?).
So well done.
Happy Friday!

I was looking for fresh chives today. Again (!) no such luck. Yay on yours!
Happy Friday. I have never had any luck growing herbs. Although I do like using them (typically dried) in my cooking.
Very good
You express your disappointment at the small number of photos of the concentration camp. We were in a small group and we were all very respectful. Most of the time I didn't even think about taking pictures. What I saw was unforgettable anyway.
There were exhibits of piles of shoes, clothes, artificial limbs, glasses, cooking pots, hair (!) which was sold I was told.
There was a brick wall where executions took place.
There were walls full of photos of the prisoners as the Nazis registered everyone, even those who went straight to the gas chambers.
Here is a link to an image library of Auschwitz:

It's great to see Bleubeard. And your herbs look amazing. I brought my potted plants inside before we went away (now my house is like a jungle :) ) I've never had very good luck with sage- it grows a year or two and then nothing. And when I bring my rosemary in I hope it makes it through the winter since the house gets kind of dry for it. But it did last year so fingers crossed it does this year. Your sage and rosemary plants look great. Lavender is kind of tricky to grow so since you still have 1 going, that is great. Have a super Friday. hugs-Erika
You have a beautiful herb garden, Elizabeth. Bleubeard is so pretty! Hugs, my friend.
I need to be harvesting lots of herbs over the next week or so. Your rosemary is a huge wow!
I have always enjoyed seeing your herbs. They all look so healthy. You do a wonderful job of caring for them and keeping fresh herbs in your kitchen. Love the image of Bleubeard too. Thank you for sharing with FFO and have a lovely weekend.
Your herb garden must smell heavenly. I'm going to get my haircut today.

Hair cut day for the herbs. I LOVE IT!
A little off the top and your herbs should stay happy. Bluebeard is looking well- nice to see him. Always amazed at the variety of mugs they carry at the Spice shop. Fun to see them all.
LOL I thought at first you'd meant you were having a haircut ... but I now see it was for the herbs :)
All the best Jan
