My Friday favorites: FFO and Smiles

It's Friday, which means it's time to join Friday Smiles, hosted by Annie (at A Stitch in Time).  Let's visit Annie and the other wonderful ladies who also share their smiles each Friday.

We're heading back to the Autumn and Art Fair today.  For those of you who missed the first entry, you will find it here.

I explained last week that this is a juried show and there is apparently a great deal that goes into being allowed in this show.

These were the cutest wooden toys.  But heavens they were expensive.  The plane was $70.00 (all prices are USD).

I didn't understand the wooden phone speakers, but they were around $45.00 each.  I guess they are for your cell phone when you put it on speaker.

One thing I thought was cute was the car that would do a flip.  There was a small one and a larger one and people were encouraged to play with them.  They were $25.00 for the tiny one and $40.00 for the larger one.

I loved the bicycle I barely got in the photo. It was a staggering $300.00.

I was photographing this booth and these were the ONLY people who saw I was taking a photo and stopped.  I was SO grateful and told them so!

At first I believed these were ceramic tiles on a backing,

but I saw the price on the small ones was $90.00 and they were just painted originals.  I swear I could make art that looked like those small squares.  And I certainly wouldn't charge that much for one (grin).

Finally!! I don't normally take photos of faces, but I can now justify joining Nicole and her Friday Face Off.

Another for good measure.

This reminded me of Sunbonnet Sue.

I didn't notice the lady in the background until I loaded this to my blog.

My internet or blogger is really running slow at the moment.  It's frustrating when it takes more than 3 minutes to load one image and left adjust it.  I've got enough photos for one more week. Of the nearly 600 photos I took, most had too many people in the booths where I stopped and, consequently, too many people in the photos.

Thanks for dropping by tonight (and tomorrow).  Please join Bleubeard and me at Friday Face Off and Friday Smiles.

I love the twirly things in your first photos Elizabeth. The wooden toys are certainly over priced though they are beautifully made and finished and that does take time. But I usually find items at these shows are too expensive. They are probably paying the earth for thier pitch. The art tiles are attractive, especially seen together like that, but as you say, they could be reproduced for much less. Still it looks like an interesting show, and I am enjoying browsing it with you. Kate xx

...I love wooden toys and have a small collection!

Hi Elizabeth. They do sound expensive but I guess the prices are to help pay for their stands.

That is an amazing show and there are some very talented people. I think some of the things seem expensive but if you have to make a living from it I can understand why they have to charge so much and the profit they end up with is probably quite low which is a sad thought. Thank you so much for letting us share this day out withnus. Hugs, Angela xXx

Some of those juried shows are interesting. I have only been in one juried show. Generally they want the artists to have higher prices. Oddly with some buyers, that makes it feel like they are getting something "special." Plus, in many of those shows, the commission the artist has to pay on each sale drives the prices up a bit.

Those wooden toys are outrageously priced. I wonder how many were sold. They look nice, but if you can handle a jigsaw and some sanding...well you get that I'm sure. Those phone speakers are cool. I believe you stick your phone behind them and then the noise (voice, music, reader) coming from your phone gets louder for you. I bought something similar several years ago for my husband. His looks like the cone you'd find to amplify sound on a very old record player, and he likes it at work because it does work. The cone certainly had more artistic creator skill than the box I would think.I do like the colors and design on those small (and large) colorful paintings. I bet I could paint one also. I hope you have a super FRiday and start of the weekend. hugs-Erika

If I paid that much for a toy I would be too nervous to let a child play with them. Good grief! Some of those art fairs are just super expensive. Same with the abstract tile paintings. Yes--you could make your own, Elizabeth. :)

I haven't been to an art fair in a long time. Wow -- those wooden toys are over the top. And you know the kid would bag it for his Fisher Price instead. I think you're right about those small $90 paintings. Nope.

What a nice looking fair. The displays and art are all so nice. Something must be running in the background of your computer or maybe you need to clean the cache. Thank you for joining FFO and have a very nice day.

Wooden toys at our local art fair can be very beautifully made, though I think children really prefer brightly colored plastic toys (or now, prefer to have an iPad or iPhone!) I think these items are really made for collectors, not for kids. It’s not fair to compare the prices of the two types of toy — the handmade ones and the mass produced ones. If they are imaginative and well-made the price could be totally justifiable, though your photos don’t really show them clearly, so I can’t tell.

What a wonderful artistic outing Elizabeth! I'm always so in awe of those who can work their magic with wood like that! ☺

I'm so totally jealous! Not much I love more than a high quality outdoor art fair! Thanks for the show.

So cool, beautiful and cute. I could never visit such a place! I would lose control!

Haha, you made me laugh so hard.
Slow technology.
56k-modem comes to mind and Ingo´s brand-new scanner.
I put 4 photos on it. And then I went grocery shopping around the corner. Because.... that´s how long it took for one darn scan!

Hope yours is back to 2023!
