What's On Your Workdesk this 745th Wednesday?

Once again it's time to pay homage to Julia at Stamping Ground, our wonderful host and Queen desker by showing what's on our desks, tables, or floor.

I almost didn't play this week because some of you saw on Monday that my camera is in the shop.  You need a camera to show a desk, right?  Right!

Instead, I thought I would share a few of the rocking horses (what else?) in my Rocking Horse altered book.  This is an old book and I used it as part of my altered book lessons many of you signed up for back in 2012.

I'll start with the cover and go from there.

I got a bit carried away on the cover.

In the lessons I taught, I started by creating a niche.

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvT54x-pC1-GHrSAT1fhQvwYVywJJ3ysGduf8T-U1uiztzP1s2UUzXT_gRC7ho4ebgyXy1nfHR_ONmTVuKk6HIQ41wE0ttbSuqOduklN9tc2l5JXTl16S87p0IOCWSgb1K1a2M/s320/niche.jpg  I showed how it was best to do this before you create any art in your book.

Next, I went on to share design principles which is when I lost some of you.

Balance.

Contrast.

Unity.

Unity and continuity.

Movement.

Negative space two ways.
Creating a color wheel.

There were a few other techniques, too.

Creating folded pages.

This spread became interactive and the viewer was able to participate in the opening and closing of the folded page, as well as rotating the view finder insert.

Examples of frames.

Creating a window.  Not sure where the horse came from, but I like it.  I just realized its a planter.

And one last picture.

Here's the beautiful face of our blog, the lovable Bleubeard when he was a kitten.

I hope you enjoyed a few of the rocking horse spreads I shared while my camera is out for repair.  I also hope this didn't feel like a long post.  I know Julia likes it short and sweet.

Thanks, too, for joining Bleubeard and me today. Messy or neat, lots of products or next to none, you will get an idea of what other artists are keeping on their tables, benches, desks, and floors! And if we're lucky, we'll get to see some amazing art along the way, too.

I absolutely LOVE the first one - and the last of course!!!
I remember as a kid I had such a red "camera" where you could put in those slices and "go on holiday" - I loved that! Do they still exist?
My rocking Moose sure just called hi to all your rocking Horses.
Have a great day, Elizabeth (and Bleubeard).

Me again! Debbie passed away unexpectedly about a year ago, it was a shock and I still miss her, she was a generous person in life and crafting and didn’t realise just how gorgeous she was xx

It was a lot of fun for me to see these as I didn't "know" you back in 2012. I love the poor rocking horse tumbling down the stairs. You have a cool die/punch to get those images. You made some really clever pages, including using the old view master circle. I like bunny a lot too. I hope your camera makes it home soon. hugs-Erika

Oh now I see why you were thinking of me when you wrote your post. You didn't lose me from the course doing the altered book, I did it to the end. Whoop Whoop. I have a couple of hard backed sewn old books awaiting altering - one day!! I am using up the spare papers in the meantime. Lovely to see yours again and all the rocking horses, was it really that long ago?
Just to be clear about the paints. The example I saw used similar colours and just added white to get a gradient. I used already mixed colours as I just can't seem to get what I want from my primary paints. Certainly not a nice rich purple at all. I'll keep trying though. Hugs BJ#1

Sad about the ongoing result of no camera — but you are getting very creative in thinking up ways to deal with it!

This post sure brings me back to my altered book days! You did a great job of illustrating all those techniques, most of all "theme"! I remember when postage was cheap enough that we could do Altered Book round robins, working pages in other people's altered books, so much fun, I have several of those! All these great techniques can also be used in Art Journaling, which is where the altered book obsession seems to have led me. Great memories! Have a wonderful week, hope the camera is fixed! Lindart #20 (Oh, and Bleubeard is still cute as a button, just don't tell him that, he may get a swelled head!)

Happy WOYWW. I love that you have such a passion for rocking horses. My issue is that I love lots of things, so to keep my life simple I actually don't get stuck into too much at all. Hope you get your camera back soon (I use my phone, so never without a camera). Ali x #19

What a good idea to show your book because of the lack of a camera. Hope the camera is back with you soon.
It's been a lovely experience to share all those pictures of the rocking horses. They are gorgeous and you are so lucky to have such a great selection.
It got me wondering though, do you have lots of photos of the cats, Bleubeard and Squiggles? Or do they prefer to be incognito?
See you tomorrow.
Hugs, neet 16 xx
