Born in a barn

Before we begin, I want to thank Chris for hosting in August.  I only wish I could have participated more.  Your theme was wonderful Chris, and your hosting skills impeccable.  You gave us lovely examples and great journal pages, too.  Thank you again.

Today we welcome a new host as we always do each month to Art Journal JourneyThis month our host is the very talented Elle from Empire of the Cat.  Elle has given us several themes for this month which are Books, Cats, and Tea.  Per Elle:

Feel free to use any of the elements from the theme separately or all together . . .
Therefore, I give you my first spread of the month, which I have created in my new Cats altered book.

I have never made a secret of the fact Bleubeard, the beautiful face of our blog, was born in a barn.  He was (and still is) the alpha male, but the sad truth is, the person who owned his mother left a sandbox in the barn that hadn't been cleaned since Eisenhower was in office.  OK, a slight exaggeration.  Bleubeard was born on October 28.  I doubt he ever used the sandbox in the barn.  Friends asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I told them "I want this #$@($^*&* cat sandbox trained."  Sadly, I finally realized it was left to me to train him.

My internet friend Tom, the Backroads Traveller, has a weekly segment called The Barn Collective.  This and my handsome Bleubeard are the inspiration for this spread.

Here are the detail shots:

And of course, one of the loves of my life.

https://www.usps.com/ecp/asset/images/740204-Z0.jpg  Per USPS, these are the four barns in the postcard collection.  There is one for each season of the year.  I couldn't find the presorted standard stamps.  Note that each of the barns is backed by book text spritzed with my handmade shimmering mists, too.

Elle, Chris, Erika, Valerie, Bleubeard, and I are delighted you joined us and hope to see you this month at Art Journal Journey as you share your own interpretation of Books, Cats, and Tea.

We welcome art journal pages that meet the theme requirements, altered book pages, canvases, loose, or stand alone pages including fabric and digital art.  We cannot leave comments on Facebook or Instagram entries.  We do not allow cards, tags, index cards, ATCs, or ATCoins, unless they are part of a journal page, and as much as we don't want to, will be forced to delete your entry.  Please remember if your blog is not in English, we ask that you either provide a translation tool or translate it for us.  Hope to see you soon at Art Journal Journey.

This is a fun way to start AJJ this month and what a great tribute to Bleubeard. I don't know where either of the cats I had were born, but I do know that Leo was from California and then brought to NH to be surrendered because his owners were moving to Japan. His first owners must have had family here in NH and hoped they would take the cats (there were 2, but I only adopted Leo because I had Emma at home already.)
I like how you used the squares and those barn stamps to tell Bleubeard's story. Very nice start, and I'm excited to see more of your Cat Altered Book as the month goes by.

Happy September to you. I hope it's a good start to the month.
hugs-Erika

To Bleubeard! As a kid we sometimes went to a farm and there were cute barn-cats, too.

I don´t think we have stamps with barns, also I wonder where Tom always finds them!
Even on long drives I hardly see any...

Ooh! American barns and a cute kitten - I love your page Elizabeth! There's something about American barns - maybe I've seen too many Bob Ross programmes but I always love it when he paints in a barn! Have a great weekend, hugs, Chrisx

A lovely page Elizabeth and what a lovely story you have told to us who did not know that Bleubeard was abandoned in a barn.
My Tabitha (she passed a long time ago, was the love of my life) too was abandoned on a farm. Not in a barn but in a decorative chimney pot they had, along with her brother and a tin of cat food.
She was beautiful, never one for cuddles but affectionate in her own way and, despite her start in life and illnesses that came along she lived to be 19.5 years old.
Thanks for the memories
Hugs, Neet xxx

I love the "born in a bad" story -- and Bleubeard! Ah, Lizzie knows the box, at the lake is 100 percent. At home, it's the puppy pads. I'm afraid to pick them up because she'll go in that spot anyway. I hope Bleubeard is less neurotic!

Hi Elizabeth, It's been awhile, but always keep you and AJJ in my thoughts. So many things happened last month, like my hubby getting Covid, then my sister, then me. We are all feeling much better now! I love your page so much. The stamps are amazing - it looks like they are from 2021. I absolutely love barns. We live in a rural area and have farmland near us. I always enjoy walking by the barns and seeing them in the changing seasons like these are shown. And I especially like how you backed each barn with book text that you spritzed. So clever! And of course, my favorite part of the page is your beautiful Bleubeard, who born in a barn!! Thank you for sharing this with all of us. A perfect page for this month's theme. Hugs, Sharon

Poor Bleubeard, he had a rough start for sure. I've never really had to "train" a cat to use a litter box, just show them where it was and they seemed to know instinctively, even Miss P who was a feral farm cat (though if given a choice, she does prefer an outside loo). I love those barn stamps, never seen them before. Very cute little Bleubeard, and love the book pages behind the barns. Do you have that expression "were you born in a barn?" asked of you when you forget to close a door? Thanks for joining me for the Books, Cats & Tea September theme at Art Journal Journey this month Happy Journalling! Elle/Empire of the Cat xx
