Friday Smiles 525: Our annual neighborhood clean up

It's Friday, which means it's time to join Friday Smiles, hosted by Annie (at A Stitch in Time). Let's visit Annie and the other wonderful ladies who also share their smiles each Friday.

Our neighborhood association has a clean up every year.  Since it is either in August or September, we were in lock down in both 2019 and 2020.  However, long term viewers suffered through me removing my bamboo in 2021.

Not to be outdone, I'm sure many of you also remember the opossum that took up residence in my shed in 2022.  Luckily, it was just in time for the annual cleanup.

Then it was time for the shed reveal.

It's a start with the left side of the shed finished.

Then the right side of the shed was finished.  After seeing the photo, I turned the pitch fork around so no one would trip over it and hurt their self.

Fast forward to 2023.  I contributed a half pound of coffee from the Spice Merchant to our neighborhood cleanup.  I didn't even have to grind it myself!

Those of you who have been long time visitors know how I poke fun when you share those nasty Canadian geese on your blogs.  I guess you can see why.  That unwelcome goose who refuses to leave because people feed it (them) just happens to be North Riverside's mascot!!!!!!!

First bamboo, then a clean shed.  This year I decided to clean my garage.

Where I left off the first night.

Where I left off the second morning before it got too hot to work in the garage.

The first night, east wall.

The next morning east wall.

Drills, hammers, sander, jigsaw, battery charger, and large containers of laundry soap.

This garage won't win any awards, nor will it ever look pristine.  However, I know where everything is and I know everything is now in its proper place.  BTW, I will be working right up until 8 p.m. tonight when everything has to be at the curb.  I still have two more walls to go.  If I am unable to visit until after noon on Saturday, I hope you will understand.  This may not interest you, but to me this is smile worthy.

Thanks for dropping by today.  Enjoy your weekend. PLEASE visit Annie and don't forget to start your weekend with a smile.  A few funnies follow.

I wish we had something like the annual clean up here, it might encourage my hubby to do the garage and workshop. Every year he is going to clear these places and doesn't. I have had to nag him to clean the filters for the pond as it wasn't done last year (he found an excuse for that!) luckily we have two filter working all the time and one is easier to clean so the water has remained okay. However the garage and the workshop are awful, I must photograph them and show you some time. Anyway well done you and I'm loving the cat funnies they are brilliant. Wishing you a very happy and relaxed weekend. Hugs, angela xXx

...bamboo can be nasty. In the '60s when I at the University of Georgia I saw it growing through black top.

Well done for sorting out your shed! It's a great initiative they have in your neighborhood and a good incentive for people to clean up and clean out their garden and other spaces.
Yes, I remember the bamboo. My husband always planted them in buckets or big containers so they wouldn't go wild.
Oh those funnies had me giggling. The cat ones are so true. And you got me singing: It's all about that bass.
I'll be thinking of you this afternoon, (when I assume you will be working your socks off). Well done you!
Have a lovely weekend,
Hugs,
Lisca

Your garage looks like a fun place to play. It's like my husband's shop, only his stuff is spread out into the garage, basement...I can never find what I want when I want it. :) and it also reminds me of my art space, which is in perpetual mess unless I clean it and don't make any art. Smile again. I like this post and seeing another part of your house Elizabeth. Hugs-Erika

I remember being amazed you were able to get rid of the bamboo. I'd love to invite a possum to our patio but not inside a shed lol Our garage has room for some storage -the little charcoal grill, patio gardening equipment, the garbage can, The Husband's Christmas decorations from his distance house...- but also 2 cars lol. It'd be nice to have more of it for storage, but we're not down to one car yet.

Isn't it a wonderful feeling to get things organized in a way that suits you!

Your cleanups are always very impressive, whether it's clutter or bamboo! I'm confused at your mention of "we were in lock down in both 2019 and 2020" -- what happened in summer of 2019? Our city used to have occasional large trash pickup days but never any more, you have to drive stuff to the dump or hire a service to do it.

Good luck with your garage! Everything is always more work and takes longer than we think--lol! Perfect time with the curbside pickup!
Great jokes!! :)

Great funnies Elizabeth My brother in Indiana used to live in a city that had a clean up like this-that is really nice to have, never lived where they do this. Must feel great to get things straightened and organized and before winter too Stay cool if you have this heat wave too and Happy weekend Kathy

I love how you have this neighborhood cleaning day -- especially with the junk pick-up after. I'm impressed with all you have done and how everything has looked. Well done, Elizabeth! That's a lot of hard work.
