Tonight I am joining Alison from Craftytrog's Arty Adventures who is our host this month at Art Journal Journey. I am also joining Nicole's Friday Face Off. Alison's theme is Come Fly With Me, and the plane qualifies. And because the two men have faces, I can also share them with Nicole and her Friday Face Off.
This is obviously a plane that carried mail.
It's obvious there are two faces, one who is dressed as a pilot, the other the postal carrier removing the mail bag from the plane. BTW, that bag can weigh up to 80 lbs. I know because at one time I was a mail carrier who took similar mail bags from town to town. As an aside, actually I was an independent contractor and bid on the route when I was 18. Everyone said I was crazy for bidding so much, but I guess no one wanted the route, which was a short one, not a long haul, so I won the bid. The PO was surprised I was so young, but I was of legal age and ready for my first "real" job while I was starting college.
I started this page by gluing a piece of dressmaker's tissue to a sheet of 110 lb cardstock. I then cut what were supposed to be squares of graduated sizes of different background that I hoped matched the postage stamp. However, my cutter and I are having a few issues and I seem to be the one losing.In response to Erika's question about when the stamp was issued, I did an internet search (NOT a google search) and found this from 1989.

Postage stamps really reflect history and social change and all kinds of other fascinating trends. I’ve always loved them, and the fact that the only mail I send is a few bills to small businesses (that don’t have online pay) is sad. This is a nice stamp.

What a fabulous stamp that is, I wish we had more stamps that were pictures. Our new postage stamps are huge, just to stop people peeling them off and reusing them. At the prices they charge they should have enough revenue.
A lovely idea to use that stamp and the backing sheet.

The perfect piece to meet several different challenges. Fun! I haven't seen real stamps in so long. I used to enjoy getting a variety of them to use.

I love the postal stamp and your story of being a postal mail carrier ... you were brave for an 18 year old ... some things never change, right? I see the price of the stamp was already going up in 1989. I can remember when a stamp was 3 cents. Now they are 67 cents ... It is no wonder people don't use the mail anymore. A 25c stamp - that is a looong time ago that a letter cost 25c to mail. Wasn't the proce of a 1st class stamp just raised again to - what is it? - 66c? I don
t really know anymore since I've been using forever stamps since - well, forever. Great info about your job as a mail courier. And a beautiful page!
