Summer of Love

Today we welcome a new host at Art Journal Journey.  Our host is Chris, who many of you know as Pearshapedcrafting.  Her theme this entire month is When We Were Young.

When I think of Chris's youth, I think of the summer of love, which heralds back to 1967.  Therefore, today we are heading to the Summer of Love.

What is more iconic than the Volkswagen Beetle.

This is definitely the Summer of Love.

And of course, we must have a peace symbol.

For this page, I started by sewing wrapping paper to 110 lb. cardstock.  The paper was so large, I got two backgrounds out of it.  It definitely reminded me of images I have seen from the sixties.  Next, I computer generated the VW and the peace symbol.  I attached them, then added the words using stickers, which were quite fiddly and impossible to keep straight.

Chris, Erika, Valerie, Bleubeard, and I are delighted you joined us and hope to see you this month at Art Journal Journey with your own take on When We Were Young.  Yvonne has decided to step down as an administrator.  We wish her the best and welcome her return any time.

We welcome art journal pages that meet the theme requirements, altered book pages, canvases, loose, or stand alone pages including fabric and digital art.  We do not allow cards, tags, index cards, ATCs, or ATCoins, unless they are part of a journal page, and as much as we don't want to, will be forced to delete your entry.  Please remember if your blog is not in English, you must either provide a translation tool or translate it for us.  Hope to see you soon at Art Journal Journey

Wonderful page, love the idea. I had a VW Beetle back in the 70s/80s, nice memories! Have a wonderful day, hugs, Valerie

Smiling. And I well remember the Beetle. VW still means Beetles to me.

What a brilliant page Elizabeth. The sixties were the best time to be a teen for sure - I would have loved a Beetle but didn't learn to drive until I was in my 20s (apart from driving a tractor off road that is!) I love the flower power background . This is such a great start to my AJJ theme, thank you! Hugs, Chrisx

I do like your take on the new theme Elizabeth. And I like how you chose the bug and the peace sign too. You were thinking a bit out of the box. Nice! Your wrapping paper has a great sixties feel too. I'm glad you mentioned Yvonne leaving also. We shall miss her, won't we? Happy new month. hugs-Erika

What a super page Elizabeth. I loved the sixties!
In fact I tried to recapture the feeling when I was once in America and visited San Francisco in the hopes I would see 'flower power' and people with flared trousers and flowers in their hair. Nope! Didn't.
I do, however, remember walking around with a bare midriff, long skirt and a flower in my hair. Guess I was trying to be a bit of a hippie. I'd love to go back to that era and be one.
Hugs, Neet xxx

Groovy page! I’m going to go look at your ICADs - you asked me how many tries it took me to get a good focus on my big group shot? Just one - I used either my iPad or iPhone and both have excellent cameras.

I was at Woodstock. Still have my ticket. Though. I did not drive my bug there. Fun post today!

I love it!! You had me at Volkswagon. :) Of course you know my love of Bugs. My first several cars were none other than VW Bugs and Beetles. Yes there is a difference. My dad and a buddy bought, fixed up and sold them throughout my childhood and adolescence.

Love the beetle and the funky paper, font, colors, and peace symbol. The 60's and 70s were such an interesting time for our world - the changing of the guard for sure. Fun page, Elizabeth, I love the sewing too. Hugz

What a perfect work of art for Chris's theme this month! I grew up in the 60's and always wanted a VW bug, but my family never had the money to purchase one. There were so many movies that featured them, like The Love Bug - I think that was made in the late 60's. Thanks so much for sharing this wth all of us, Elizabeth.
