Today I'm joining Wendy K at Wendy's Craft Journal, our host this month at Art Journal Journey. Wendy's theme is Doors and Arches.
This is a very quick entry I put together.
I found this image in an art book and it spoke to me. I decided to sew it to a black background.
What came to mind was from my favorite horror film, The Wizard of Oz. It's obviously a quote from L. Frank Baum. In case you need a translation, "There is no place like home."
When I changed threads, I got my tension wrong. Both are variegated. The black on the left has tiny indentations which don't show on the scan. As you can see, my scanner is on its last leg.Thanks for taking time to drop by today. Bleubeard and I are very grateful for your visit. Those famous words in The Wizard are quoted from the song "Home Sweet Home," which dates to 1823, and was wildly popular ever afterwards. I remember singing it as a school child:
"Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam
Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home"
The music is by Sir Henry Bishop and the lyrics by John Howard Payne. The audience for the Wizard of Oz in Baum's time would have all known the song, and its tune is played in the background during the relevant scene in the film.

I loved that film as a kid. In fact, I sat through several showings of it once, starting with the first matinee and going right on through till evening, when my family got concerned aobut where I was and came looking for me. I was amazed to see you thought it was a horror story. But then, I was a Baum fan and read so many of his books afterwards - and some of those really were kinda creepy.
As for the door: It's lovely. I find pictures of doors evocative. You just have to wonder what lies over the threshold. Beautiful treatment.

Nice page for AJJ, and the Wizard of Oz quote fits so well with Kansas. I hope the fact that there is an umbrella by the door doesn't mean a big storm with another tornado (like in the Oz story) is coming. Those flowers are much too pretty. Smile. Hugs-Erika

This is such a lovely image Elizabeth- I'm pleased to see that it's stopped raining. I guess the inside is very tidy as the umbrella owner didn't want it dripping on the pale (surely?)carpet! I have a thing about doors, just love taking photos of them and also have a thing about pretty houses. This is certainly a pretty house and I wonder who lives there? Someone is obviously a very tidy person as her visitor has left her umbrella outside. I wonder why?
