Friday Smiles 464: a smile worthy photo and words about Zellenskyy

It's Friday and I'm once again joining Friday Smiles which is hosted by Annie (at A Stitch in Time).   Let's visit her and the other wonderful ladies who also share their smiles each Friday.  This has been another difficult week because I have been experiencing pain from my fall last week.  Seems I am having trouble with my back and hip in addition to my bottom, which I initially thought took the brunt of the fall.  I now have trouble sitting in my computer chair for any length of time.

I have one smile worthy thing to share this week.

It's my beautiful Bleubeard who actually allowed me to take a photo of him.  He is even sporting his new green and pink cat collar, but you can't see it for all the fur.  If this isn't smile worthy, I don't know what is!

Here's a bit of food for thought:

I call this a lesson in economics.

I think many, if not most of us have a deep respect for Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his bravery.  But are you aware he rose to fame initially as a comedian?

Zelenskyy studied law in Ukraine.  After graduating, instead of practicing law, he decided to go into acting, with comedy as his choice venue.  During the 2010s, he became one of Ukraine’s top entertainers with the TV series “Servant of the People.”

The premise behind the series was Zelenskyy was a 30-something high school history teacher named Vasyl Petrovych Goloborodko who lived with his parents.  He became an overnight success after one of his students videotaped one of his wildly profane rants about the corruption in Ukraine (which the rest of the world knew to be true).  When the video went viral on YouTube, Goloborodko's students set up a campaign (against his wishes) to become President of Ukraine.

Through their campaign, the students got Goloborodko elected as President of Ukraine.

At first he resisted, but eventually, he decided to weed out corruption.

If you have Netflix, which I don't, I understand they have brought this comedy back with subtitles.

Fast forward to 2019, like his TV character, Zelenskyy, a comedian with no prior political experience, became president in a landslide democratic election (with 73% of the vote), defeating a billionaire businessman.  Ukrainians voted to make the show a reality, electing Zelenskyy as their actual president.

Now Zelenskyy is president of Ukraine for real.  When former president Donald Trump tried to keep Zelenskyy from getting much needed stinger missiles, Trump was impeached.  Trump blocked payment of a congressionally mandated $400 million military aid package to allegedly obtain "quid pro quo" cooperation from Zelenskyy.  Trump released the aid after learning of a whistleblower complaint.  I remember seeing a reporter ask Zelenskyy what he thought of the situation with Trump.  Zelenskyy, in a perfectly timed response said (words to the effect) "He's your president.  You should ask him."

For those of you who watched the heartbreaking video Zelenskyy showed the U.S. Congress, be aware, he learned these tactics while producing and starring in "Servant of the People."  He knows how to make it feel personal and he does.  I think that will take him far and I applaud him.

That's it for me today.  Thanks for visiting and spending a bit of time with Bleubeard and me this Friday.  Now PLEASE visit Annie and don't forget to say a few prayers for the brave Ukrainians fighting to keep their freedom.

Hope you feel better soon - have you seen a doctor yet?
Awww,Bleubeard looks very sweet and content.
Yes, that is some President story! A bit like Reagan.
Didn´t know the students pushed him on the way, this sure makes me smile, thank you!

Bleubeard certainly is beautiful, and well done for catching him on camera.
I am sorry you are suffering from your fall. I guess it does take time to heal from bruised bones and muscles, but I hope it eases soon.
That was an interesting piece about Volodymyr Zelenskyy. I do admire the man and the way he has defended his country, and not just hidden away in a safe place. There does look to be some hope on the horizon now though probably not how he would have chosen it to end. But I continue to pray for a good outcome soon.
Take care, and if you can find a comfortable way to rest, then do so. Kate x

Good morning, Elizabeth. Thanks for the picture of Bleubeard. Now I can say I've met him. :-)
I hope you heal up from your fall soon. I'm sorry it has caused such a painful aftermath. And thanks so much for your piece on Zelensky. I so admire him and the way he has risen to this moment in time.

I would be happy to have you add my blog to your sidebar!
Yes, Zelensky is an amazing man. My son was an actor for 10 years. He's now a financial planner! Acting teaches one a lot about others and yourself!

I feel for you Elizabeth, I have had back trouble in the past and it's truly awful. I found that rest first then gentle exercise helped but you really need advice about the best route to take. I have often wondered about Bleubeard, how old he must be as you seem to have had him for some time. He is beautiful. The story about Volodymyr Zelenskyy was a real eye-opener, I had no idea about his background. I have watched him and I believe he is a good man. I often look at peoples eyes as they tell so much about a character. I believe him to be an honest man, hope I'm right. Have a lovely weekend. Hugs, Angela xXx

I'm sorry your pain continues :( Back and hip pain are hard to suffer through.

Bleubeard is quite handsome :) I'm glad he agreed to the photograph.

My favorite Zelensky video is the Single Ladies one where he's shirtless and dressed in tight vinyl pants, dancing to the Beyonce song lol The man has style ;) I was touched by his appeal to Congress and angered by the critiques of his clothing, people saying he should've worn a suit. Humph. What's wrong with people :(

Sorry you are still having pain. Maybe it should be checked? It is worrisome that it has spread. And Bleubead is quite handsome. I can see why you named him as you did. I thought pirate for awhile ( like you’d seen Pirates of the Caribbean maybe smile). And I did know about Zellenskyy being a comedian. He is a brave man and truly a hero. I think maybe him being a comedian helps him mentally day to day. Something has to keep him together. Hope the back feels better. Back pain is the worst. Hugs Erika

I'm sorry to hear you are still in pain from your fall. I hope it eases soon.
What a fantastic photo of Bluebeard! I consider it a privilege to be able to meet him like this.
Great story about Zelensky isn't it. I knew this as I had researched him of course and I admire him too. He is the right president for a time like this. Even though he might be acting, it is working. Like in WWII Churchill's speeches were a tonic and an encouragement for the people, so Zelensky knows how to encourage his people.
Have a lovely weekend, and give that boy of yours a cuddle from me,
Lisca

Good news about Bleubeard, but sorry you are still in pain-have you gotten an xray to make sure you did not break or crack anything? hoping you heal soon.
I did know that the President of Ukraine was a comedian before, but hadn't seen any of the shows-we don't buy those extra streaming services.
No comment on the gas prices
Happy Friday Elizabeth

Oh do take care of yourself, I’ve been where you are and it’s not nice.
I just asked hubby, who knows everything, if he knew Zelenskys background and surprisingly he didn’t.
I bet I’ll hear him repeat your facts before the weekends out haha
Take care

A lovely photo of your beautiful boy Elizabeth.
Interesting to learn more about President Zelenskyy, I knew he had been a comedian, but I didn't know about the TV show.
I really hope your pain has eased now.
Take care,

Oh my-Bleubeard is soooo beautiful! That color gray is one of my favorite colors. So-how does he feel about wearing a PINK collar? He seems quite macho-but maybe he's just a sweetie under all those muscles!
And I agree-Zelensky is a good man.
