It's Friday and I'm once again joining Friday Smiles which is hosted by Annie (at A Stitch in Time). Let's visit her and the other wonderful ladies who also share their smiles each Friday.
From the temporary guitar collection I shared last week, it was time to enter my favorite room, the permanent display of an old time drug store.
Those of you who have seen photos of my home know how much I love old oak wood. Although not quarter sawn, this room is filled with oak. It's also filled with memorabilia of a vintage drug store. I love the crown moldings, the detail molding on the wood, the carvings, and the old phone on the wall, too. 
I had to be careful that I didn't photo bomb myself because there were mirrors
on every wall. Did you see the old cash register?
Wouldn't you love a good soda, egg cream, or malt from the soda area of the drug store?
This is when the lighting got horrible because of the back lighting from the windows. Lightening the photo in Photoshop proved dicey because 
I lost some detail and gained other. Time to get away from these stained glass windows!
I loved how I could get close to this bank of wooden storage units.
Wouldn't you love to have this storage for your craft supplies?
I know I would!
Such detail and so many lovely items to look at. And all contained in beautiful wood, too.
What impressed me was how much storage you could fit into something like this. I was also impressed that the entire time I spent in this room, I never saw another human. I felt very safe (and well masked, too).
Sadly, it was now time to leave the drug store and check out other rooms in the museum.Now for a few funnies.

And to imagine how they worked back then! Go to a pharmacy these days. They put into the computer what you need and fluuuup the stuff comes on a slide right to them.
No need to know where to find what. We get dumber and dumber with this technology.

I like wood too, though that big bank of storage drawers would be too dark in my room. Te moulded dcorations arelovely. I have not heard of those sodas. Soda bars were not a 'thing' in UK like they were (are?) in America. We hung out in coffee bars and I have always hated coffee!

I love this room. I have always loved historic room replicas. The De Young Museum in San Francisco once had several, and then when they remodeled, the rooms were gone. I was so sorry to see that lack. This drugstore replica is great.
I really love that old drug store...I wonder how many of the drugs are still used today and how many of them actually did any good. Love the funnies.

Those old stores were designed with style. Not only functional, but elegant too. Yeah, those built in cabinets would be a dream for art supply storage.
I can see why you like this exhibit so much. I do too. The wood is beautiful and have such nice details. That wall unit would also be beautiful in a home with books or knick-knacks on the shelves. It's a shame how many probably just got chopped up and thrown in the dumpster when old buildings remodeled. Have a great Friday my friend. hugs-Erika

I enjoy recreations of historic settings, both businesses and rooms in homes. This one looks like it could reopen tomorrow :)
I can see why you are so enamored of this room in the museum. Do they have those big bottles that used to be displayed in pharmacies?

Hi Elizabeth, the store furniture is so classy and I really would like it fitted in my craftroom too. We have never had drugstores like that - no cafe areas in ours. I enjoyed the funnies. Our late cat, Bonnie was totally unmoved by catnip but the new kitten Silver goes crazy for it. Have a good month - you'll be missed - and take care. Elizabeth x
I can see why that's a favorite! It would be mine, too. I loved the soda fountain and those vintage ice cream chairs. I loved stores like that in the day and feel lucky that I still remember soda fountains in drug and dime stores!
