I love it when a challenge comes together

I want to start today with a tag I created for the latest theme at Tag Tuesday, which my friend Valerie is hosting this fortnight. She wants us to Reuse and Recycle, something near and dear to my heart.  I don't really have a lot of hoarded items for this tag, but I love to recycle.

Let's start with the tag's substrate, which is cardboard I cut from a box that held canned peas.  Not corrugated, but sturdy, none-the-less.

I cut the cardboard box down to 5.5 X 10 inches (13.97 X 25.4 centimeters).  There was some confusion when I converted feet to meters in a previous post.  I have always used what I thought was the standard metric way to show the measurement, or 13,97 X 25,4 cm.  Sorry if I confused some by not using the period in place of the comma.  This time I chose to use the period so my American friends would "get it."

Now the conversion is cleared up, it's time to cut the corners.

I planned to keep the cardboard side plain.  At least that was the original plan.

I covered the tag with lots of book pages left over from a previous project.  This qualifies for Try it on Tuesday's latest theme, which is Use Book Pages.  I also used a bit of gold fluid acrylic and edged the tag with dye ink.

The stamped keyhole is from Stampin' Up that is from a set dated 1999.  It was stamped on a piece of leftover painted cardstock from another project. I cut painted recycled cardstock using my deckle edged scissors.

A small piece of washi tape I found on the floor was colored with dye ink in an attempt to age it.

Left over strips cut from my hole reinforcements, one of which the TH paper doll and his dog stood on, were used to ground them.  But that was when I decided to add more.

I did something I don't normally do, and that is I scanned this journal page.  By using several colors of brown watercolors, I am joining More Mixed Media where their theme this month is always Anything Goes, but this month with an option of brown.

These vintage dogs were sent to me by my dear friend Jeanie who said she bought a scrapbook from the 1800s that had this image in it.  Therefore, it qualifies for Wendy's Vintage theme at Art Journal Journey.

I loved that I found a TH dog that was approximately the same size as the dog on the tag.

I first stamped the key, also from the same Stampin' Up set, then positioned the dog firmly on the key.

What originally started as a music theme, quickly turned morphed into a key and dog theme.  Please don't tell Bleubeard, though.

For this page, I began with the tag I mentioned previously, then added the watercolored 110 lb cardstock.  The Creative Artiste Challenge Blog with their Anything Mixed Media Goes theme requires a minimum of three mediums must be used on their projects. I have more than that with the recycled tag's substrate, the various book pages (including sheet music which provided the title of the page), the leftover hole reinforcement strips, the two paper dolls, two rubber stamps, the use of deckle scissors to cut leftover painted cardstock, washi tape, dye ink, gold paint, several brown watercolors, and an image from an 1800s scrapbook.

Thank you for joining me today at all these challenge blogs: Tag Tuesday, Try it on Tuesday, More Mixed Media, Art Journal Journey, and Creative Artiste.  Bleubeard and I are so delighted you stopped by for a visit, too.

OH!!!! I remember when we were like... 14, driving on our push-bikes to the village, and there were fields with such peas!
We stopped and... "stole"... just a bit, as a lille treat.

Yes ;-) You confused me. I´ll never get it (unless I have to), cm, please!

Great tag / page, true quote.

Hi Elizabeth, you have really created an all round challenge here. The tag is gorgeous, thanks for linking it to Tag Tuesday and TIOT, much appreciated. And then I love that you made it into a journal page, with lots of pretty dogs. And thanks for linking it to AJJ and MMM! Glad I'm not the only one with washi tape where it shouldn't have been! Have a great day, hugs, Valerie

You really had to work with a lot of constraints this week. I can't even follow all the challenges you mentioned. The result, though, is interesting looking, with a nice color range.

You first had me with the pea box. No one in my house but me eats peas and I love them. BUT, you did use the box to it's full advantage and make not only a super tag, but also when you added those dogs, something that really caught my eye. This is great for Wendy challenge. Thanks for sharing this with us. And I also love how you managed to get 3 challenges from it. Nice work my dear. Have a wonderful start to the new week. Hugs-Erika

You certainly nailed the challenges here Elizabeth. I think the whole tag has a vintage look about it with the little guy and his dog. Love the background and how you used the left over bits from the hole reinforcers.
Then you go and put it on a journal page - the brown/rust/orange colours are perfect and I do like how the little dog is stood on the key.
A fabulous entry for Wendy's challenge.

The song is now playing in my head :) I think the man and his dog make a great pair, linked to the song.

How marvellous that your gorgeous tag grew into a journal page Elizabeth. I love organic projects that feed on creativity. Your wonderful layering of old papers, the vintage artwork and recycled waste 'artifacts' are all cleverly pulled together with your fabulous paint choices and stamped details. Lovely to see you sharing at Creative Artiste.
Thank you for joining in with our September challenge "Anything Mixed Media Goes" at Creative Artiste Mixed Media. Good luck x
