Summertime

I'm back today with my final journal page for Butterfly's Summer Countryside theme.  We would like to thank Alison (Butterfly) for hosting this month at Art Journal Journey

I named this Summertime thinking it reminded me of a summer day in a meadow.

I thought of this quote by Charles Bowden when I created the page.

The scene was created by gluing a napkin to the background.

To provide a bit of wildflower feel,

I created these using a die cut that I turned into a stencil.

Unfortunately, the pen I used caused the 110 lb. cardstock to pill.  It does provide a bit of unusual and unexpected texture, though.

I began this page by brushing on two different colors Staz-on reinkers to which I added 91% isopropyl alcohol.  When dry, which took only a few seconds, I tore a single layer of a three-ply napkin apart.  I wish I had torn the other two sides, because I thought the image became a bit too static for my taste.

I colored one of the pieces of cardstock with a single color of Staz-on reinker and alcohol.  I cut it down to use as a mat for the Charles Bowden quote which is:
Summertime is always the best of what might be.
Bleubeard and I are thrilled you visited today.  You still have another day to join us at Art Journal Journey with your own interpretation of Summer Countryside.  Hope to see you there.

I agree, summertime is the best - and sometimes such "accidents" are the crown :-)

Just magical... I think you've saved the best for last (though the deer in his hideaway comes close!). This makes me want to set off into the mountains. Love the texture and movement of the background, and how the stencilled flowers (clever with the die-cut offcuts) echo the angles in the photo. It's another quote that I almost used and then didn't... we've clearly been on the same word wavelength! Thanks so much for having me as the host at AJJ this month - it's been so much fun.

Lovely background and picture, Elizabeth, and the words are perfect for it. I make so many mistakes when playing with pens and napkins that I have just said to myself it is the process - lol. Hope you have a great weekend! Hugz

Not my favorite season especially since climate change has caused so much heat and heartache. Your page is beautiful, however, it reminds me of how I remember summers as a child. May we please get back to that kind of summer.

Summertime is the best of what might be for sure. I love the 3 flowers and that field of pretty blooms too. Even your blue background is the right color for a nice summer day. This is a great post to end the month. I saw lots of pretty fields of wildflowers in NY too. It's that time of year. Have a great end of the month. Hugs-Erika

Its a beautiful page and a good idea to use the die cut as a stencil, I like how the texture adds to the piece. It may have been an accident with the paper etc but it worked so well on the page.
