But that was Monday and today is Friday, so I'm joining Friday Smiles which is hosted by Annie (at A Stitch in Time). Let's visit her and the other wonderful ladies who also share their smiles each Friday.
I received a call on Tuesday that the lawnmower part was now in. Needless to say, I did a happy dance.
I made three passes and I still missed some of the weeds. Even though I used a mulching mower, the grass was just too thick and high for the mulcher to work properly. I felt really bad because as I was mowing, five baby rabbits scattered in all directions. Apparently they had found a safe haven in my high grass.
Grass wasn't the only thing that was cut. Thursday morning while it was still relatively cool, I cut my basil. I have several recipes I plan to try and I gave some to a friend who came to visit.
My squash sits to the left of pineapple mint (in front), catnip, and orange mint. These two mints are next on the list to be cut back.
Fennel, grown from last year's seeds, sits in the pot with the bird. I believe bee balm is directly behind it, and I am not sure what is in the gray bucket turned planter.
Then something or maybe some bunny got to it. Whatever happened, it was cut off at the stalk (that brown tube sticking up).
I realize it doesn't look like I removed much basil, but I weighed it inside and it was nearly 3/4 lb. It was so much fun to share some, too.
I even found a day lily that I don't remember planting. It is next to the brown storage containers in the upper left in the photo. I left it when I mowed.
The dill that broke that I stuffed in the pot to collect the seeds had a different idea. A couple of the branches have worked their way skyward. Isn't nature incredible? I thought this post was long enough, I only have two cat funnies today.
Now let's join Annie (at A Stitch in Time) and the lovely ladies who join her for Friday Smiles. Thanks
again for visiting and spending a bit of time with Bleubeard and me this
Friday. We would love to have you join us, too.
18 thoughtful remarks:
your lawn looks so neat now, after a lot of hard work!
You have been busy - and successful.
That best seat in the house thing was something my father often said. He is not wrong.
And yes, Jazz is into self service - despite my protests.
Your garden is looking good, but somehow I liked the 'jungle' better! Your herby look great. I need to harvest mine, too. Have a great day, hugs, Valerie
Wow what a difference. I bet you can’t stop looking at the lawn now.
Basil is my favourite and it doesn’t really last long as I’m always picking it off and eating it as I walk by.
My friend Vintage Vix has a self sufficient garden since lockdown started. They are normally away doing festivals and vintage fairs but now her blog is like yours full of all the lovely things growing on their patch.
Enjoy the fruits of your labours.
Lynn xx
Wow, you have been busy! But now you can look out with great satisfaction. Your yard looks neat and tidy. With lots of good things growing. What a shame about the tomato plant.
The herbs all look really healthy.
I giggled at the cat funnies. I can empathize as we had cats. It is very true.
Have a great weekend,
Lisca
You garden is very green and that instantly makes me feel cooler. I am glad the little bunnies escaped. I am sure they will find somewhere else to hide. It was a big job mowing all that greas, but I am glad your mower is working again.
Your herbs have done very well. When I had too many to use, and no-one I could give any to, I used to chop them quite finely and put a tiny amount of white vinegar on them and freeze them in an ice cube tray. That way I could add a cube or two to dishes when the herbs were out of season.
Love the grumpy cat, and it is true, he would usually be on the best seat in the house! Kate x
What a difference the mower has made....I bet you were glad it hadn't grown any longer. Fancy having a family of bunnies in there...they will eat all sorts so they probably really enjoyed your tomato plant. Your herbs are doing really well...I bet you will really enjoy them.
Hugs,
Annie x
Great to see your flourishing herbs, one tomato plant, and finally, your mowed lawn! Basil is such a delicious flavor -- I love it in caprese salad. I'm sure you'll make something delicious with it.

It's amazing what mowing a lawn can do for looks. I believe it when you say you needed to do several passes. My lawn is bad enough it hasn't been mowed in a few weeks and is still not really long, but then up until last weekend it was dry. Now we are having more rain so maybe (I hope) the lawn will thicken up. Your plants look amazing too. Too bad about the tomato. Plants really are amazing the way they grow, aren't they? Happy Friday! hugs-Erika
Great mow job. I love how your garden is growing. It all looks so healthy even in the heat. Have a very nice day today.
Your cat funnies are brilliant, definitely smile worthy. The grass looked like hard work so well done for getting it sorted it's looking much better now though I imagine the rabbits don't think so. I'm well impressed with all the gorgeous plants you're growing and feeling a bit guilty because I used to grow other things as well as flowers but lost interest....maybe it was the crafting that did it which is why I'm late today. I have to admit that when I got back from walking the dogs I was hunting for some new resin on-line so I'm afraid it's the craft stuff again that's distracted me Lol! Have a lovely weekend. Hugs, Angela xXx
What a Herculean task to mow the tall grass. Too bad about the bunnies, but I bet they have other hidey holes. Your garden looks great. Too bad about the tomato. I'm waiting to see whether Himself will be able to harvest the tomato near the greenhouse door or Timex will get to it first.
I'm amazed you could get through your yard so well with it so high. Great job! Your herb garden is inspiring me to add more herbs next year. Everything looks so nice! My sympathies on your tomato, but the bunnies deserved it after the loss of their meadow ;) I tried parsley again this year with no better luck than last time lol I'll give it another try before I give up on it. Dill looks like a fun one. I'll add it to my "wants" next year :)
bleu and squiggles; N joy de nip doodz and de week oh end ☺☺
Elizabeth; I'm truly surprised that your herbs look as good as they
do; if I had ONE rabbit in my yard; and I had those herbs///veggies
he would have made short order of everything by now....
the ONE I do see in my yard has already decided to "consoom" my
geraniums
hizzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
happy weekend to you ☺☺♥♥
Your garden plants are doing really well. I have grown pineapple mint and really loved that one, there are allot of chipmunks here at the lake house and they will bite off the tomato plants like that-they also again this year are eating all of my tomatoes-so I guess I won't be growing tomatoes next year if they don't leave me some-lol Enjoyed the smiles-Happy Friday
You mowed that tall grass this heat?! Amazing! Yes, and thank you for sharing your basil, and dill, and mint. Very generous of you , Elizabeth. Stay cool! Hugs.
That was some tall grass. No wonder the baby bunnies were feeling safe there--till the mower--LOL! Everything is really growing! :)
I hope the baby rabbits found somewhere to hide! Your garden looks so productive! I hope you enjoyed you basil recipes! Hugs, Chrisx
