Monday Murals: Immigration is beautiful (AGAIN)
It's time to join Sami at Sami's Colourful World and her Monday Murals. Please be aware that Sami's mural link goes live at 11:01 a.m. my time. I had internet problems last week, but finally visited everyone by Friday. I hope to do better this week.
This is another mural I looked for. It is called "Immigration is beautiful."
It was originally painted in 2013 by a group of Wichita, Kansas (USA) high school students known as the Latin Leaders (LL) under the guidance of Armando Minjarez, who was also the founder of an art and education non-profit known as The Seed House/Casa de la Semilla.
This shows the mural being created by students in 2013.
However, in 2014 it was brutally attacked with the racist words "KKK is beautiful wet backs."
It didn't discourage these students, though. They quickly got to work to remove the racist graffiti. Repair of the mural started immediately and the mural is once again beautiful.
Unfortunately, there are still bits of evidence of the vandalism.
This mural features a man and a woman with American and Mexican flags wrapped around them
looking past a border fence toward the promise of the Statue of Liberty. Part of the American flag shows what look like DREAMERS, undocumented youth brought to the States as children, and whom the U.S. Supreme Court recently gave a small hope that they might be able to stay, which defies Trump's promises to deport them.
This mural is located near 21st Street on Park Place in Wichita, Kansas (USA).
If you enjoy murals from around the world, please don't forget to visit Monday Murals at Sami's Colourful World.

Glad you found the lovely mural, Pity you didn't find my blog yesterday!
Have a nice day, Valerie
Its good you found the mural you were seeking out. Its sad that folk want to destroy the work others have spent hours creating, I hope it will be left alone for everyone to enjoy.

You've discovered a wonderful mural Elizabeth.
What a pity it was defaced, but luckily has been repaired.
Thanks for participating in Monday Murals.
How do you discover these amazing murals??
What a wonderful work of art. I'm happy the damage was removed and the mural restored.
There's no end to the shameless behavior of the immoral majority in our country! Thank you for showing us the work of brave young people.
be well... mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Such a beautiful mural and so sad to see it defaced. I admire the strength of the young people to restore their hard work and not give in to the ignorant bullies
...what a fabulous mural, most of us would not be Americans if it weren't for immigration, even idiot 45!!! I've found a number of tagged murals and sometimes leaving the BS up sends a powerful statement. Thanks for sharing and please be part of the Blue Wave this November!!!
I am so glad you found this. It is a good one and perfect for today.
Ditto every comment a hundred times over!!! This is heartwarming! Thank you Elizabeth, there is a very important story in this work of art.
Thx also for your visit, I needed that. 😊
Cool mural. I really like how it was painted by students and their message. Hope it was a great weekend. Hugs-Erika
A beautiful, strong mural.
Clever.
In so many ways, too. Education. Oh, what I see here... sad.
Sometimes I feel old and I am thankful for it. I feel "educated".
An important and beautiful mural
It is very encouraging to see this mural during such a time of hatred of and resentment towards others. It is reason for hope that young people are involved with this art.
Such a beautiful and meaningful piece of art. Kudos that it was able to be repaired. Hugs, RO
This is a gorgeous and especially meaningful mural.
This is a gorgeous and especially meaningful mural.
Such a beautiful mural Elizabeth and the story of its restoration after such callous vandalism gives a very hopeful message. So many of our young people give us reason to be proud. Vicky x
PS. Bluebeard is absolutely beautiful!
I'm finding it odd that immigration sparks such strong emotion in Kansas, so far away from any border. Do y'all have a large immigrant population there?
Cool mural!
I tis so good that it has been restored!
I like this. And I especially like the sentiment with it. It's very beautiful.
I'm glad they restored it. It breaks my heart that so many people are cruel and horrible.
