T Stands For Choose Your Bag

T Stands For Choose Your Bag: your tea bag of course.

This rather tongue in cheek look at handbags, tea bags, and recycling should put a smile on your face.

Each bag was fussy cut

then glued over a tea bag that most closely fit in size and shape.

Some tea bags stained better than others.

Some of you may remember months and months ago, I explained that Barbara from Pinelands Creations sent me a few felting needles.  Sadly, I still haven't found them.  I also explained she sent something else, and I DID know where they were.  One of those "somethings" is the round tea bag you see in the upper right.  I bet Barbara thought I had forgotten all about them, but I hadn't.  I was just waiting for the perfect time to pull one out of a bag of several she sent me.  Doesn't it have a gorgeous patina?  Thanks for your thoughtfulness, Barbara.

These hand bags and clutches came from an unsolicited catalog I got in the mail.

I had no qualms cutting them out of the catalog before I recycle it further.

One more look at the left spread

and the right.

Some of those bags were very expensive.

I'm glad I wasn't

expected to order any.

For Day 21 of 22 that I created in my Stress Free altered book, I chose seven used tea bags from my stash and one that was gifted.  The fussy cut hand bags and clutches were glued to the tea bags while I waited for the background, paint I got from the Household Hazardous Waste site, to dry.  I chose die cut letters that had been made using recycled card stock or leather samples.  Once glued in place and dried, I ran a gold metallic gel pen around each of the letters.

I'd like to say a few words about recycling.  I've looked at a ton of projects that "claim" they are recycled.  However, upon closer inspection, only one small item was recycled and the bulk of the materials were purchased.  It is my belief that a minimum of 50% of the project should contain recycled materials before it can be called recycled.

I suspect you know what's coming next. Yes, it's now your turn to share your drink related post.  Please link your T post below, and Bleubeard and I, along with other T participants, will be by to visit.  Were you expecting better instructions, or will this suffice?  Be sure to link only your T post and not your blog in general, please.

Lots of lovely handbags on your spread. They are mostly very expensive here, too, especially the nice ones. Happy T Day, I'm off to bed here! Valerie

Yes, this page did make me smile, Elizabeth.

I wondered if you were referring to my 45 rpm page when you mentioned things that weren't really recycled. In your comment you thought that I just pasted an old record sleeve on my page. However, I created the faux 45 envelope from a squarish flat brown paper bag that I distressed to look vintage.

Also, you asked about my version of PS. I have CS5, which was the last freestanding version Adobe released. I started with CS3 and upgraded to 5. But I refuse to subscribe to their expensive cloud version. Over time, CS5 is becoming less functioanal and more glitchy. I had to give up on Adobe Lightroom when it stopped functioning entirely. I found PhotoScape X Pro to replace that. I'll probably need to look for a PS substitute pretty soon. Not a nice way to treat your coustomers, IMO, Adobe!

Keep crafting and stay well.

Happy T-Day! Eileen xx

Great recycling ~ I saved some tea bags, but haven't done much with them yet ~ you've inspired me to try! I call my "bag" a purse, and mine is always seasonal in color, simple in design and functional. After this quarantine maybe I'll splurge on something a little more fun ?! ~ Happy T day!

Cool idea. I love using purses and the teabags. You are clever. It is tough coming up with exciting T day posts in this time but you did it. Have a great T day.

These are really neat! I like to collect old handbags from thrift stores and flea markets, and a girl can never have too many! Hugs, RO

You rather made me a tad desperate! I have more than enough bags. And then people present me with bags! And I use but one, it´s crazy!!!
Yes. You made me laugh! Cool idea with the tea-bags. Well, kinda.
It sadly also reminds me of my Mum. We were not allowed to go into our old room, and when Mum´d left we had to. Just to find out she was a messie. And that was "the" room.
But! Let´s notend on a sad note, and please, never give me a bag :-) Other than tea.

Good morning Elizabeth, I love your page with the tea bags and handbags-very creative. I agree if something says made from recycled things most all of it should be recycled. Happy T wishes

Well the bags sure got my attention this morning....the tea bags of course.
Its a fantastic page and the handbags do look lovely and all the fussy cutting you did, I hope your hands are okay. My handbags are well used and they last me till they are well past their prime and I cannot make them last longer. I have enjoyed my visit today.
Stay safe and well.

Yes, that put a smile on my face. Then I thought: Elisabeth the bag lady, and that got me into fits of laughter, because a bag lady in England is a homeless person.
Well done you for fussy cutting all those hand bags.
I like it that you call the handbags 'bags' as I know in the US you call them 'purse'.
Of course the recycled tea bags are really cool. I wonder what is so special about a round tea bag. Most English tea bags are round.
My teabags (and coffee pads for my Senseo coffee maker) go in the compost bin that I have in the kitchen. Together with all my veg cuts and peels. With all the plastic, paper, metal and glass recycling we do, our rubbish bin is never full.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca

I am loving your recycled project, Elizabeth. Tea bags are always a favorite but I also have a thing for handbags. I have way too many and I am always finding more that I like. Having Children had me neglecting my bags for many years but I have just started using them again and I realize how much I missed mixing and matching with my Sunday outfits.
Thank you for hosting Tea day,
Kate

I have quite a few bags and enjoy swapping them around, sometimes matching them to outfits.
I like your recycled pages, and the tea bags make for lovely backgrounds Elizabeth.

What pretty bags! I use the same purple purse all the time unless I have a dressy event that calls for something more elegant. Thinking back, I can't remember the last one of those ;)

Happy T Tuesday!

Wow fancy handbags! I prefer a plain black bag for daily use, but that wouldn’t make a very fun page. :) Love the use of teabags as well. I agree with your take on what makes a truly “recycled project”, Having said that I think the fact people are using recycled materials in their projects can only be a good thing! Take care.

Just like the white rabbit in Alice in Wonderland, I'm running late for the Tea Party! Love the 'bags!' love the tea bags...but I really can't understand spending hundreds of dollars on a purse! At least you got use from the images.
I'm not so great at recycling, but I do try to use every tiny little scrap of fabric and paper. ;) Hope you are doing well, Happy Tea Day!
