Words to live by

Today we welcome a new host at Art Journal Journey.  She is a first time host and my dear friend Halle at Halle's Hobbies.   Although she is no stranger to mixed media and art journaling, I hope you will welcome her as this month's guest host.  In fact, I recommended her for this honor, so you know I'll be encouraging her as much as possible this month.

Halle's theme is Words to live by.  This is difficult for me because there are many times I don't feel the need to use words in my altered art or journal pages.

We'll begin on the right side of the page

where I have placed the quote.

The quote reads:
We must be willing to get rid of
the life we have planned,
so as to have the life that is
waiting for us.
~ Joseph Campbell

The beautiful butterfly is the perfect example.

For the left side, I brought out my sewing machine to create the fabric embellishment.

I found a lovely Irish cottage

where butterflies can roam free.

A few close-ups of the handmade shimmering mist

and buttercream craft paint I used

to complete the background.

For this spread, I began by laying down craft acrylic paint over which I spritzed some of my bright green spray mist.  On the left, I sewed wide bias tape, ribbon, and rick rack together using variegated thread before adding it to the page.  I found a coaster of an Irish cottage that I attached to a green paint chip I had stamped with a LaBlanche stamp gifted me by my friend Valerie.

For the right side, I began with a paint chip I stamped using a wood mounted red rubber butterfly I purchased at the Dollar Tree (where everything is a dollar).  When it didn't want to dry, I pulled out my heat gun.  When I thought it was ready, I touched the ink and smeared it a bit.  Once completely dry, I glued it to the page, then added the wonderful library date due card gifted me by Pamela and the computer generated quote I colored using the bright green shimmering mist.

Thanks for joining Bleubeard and me today.  I hope you will join first time host Halle, Susi, Bleubeard, and me this month at Art Journal Journey with your own art inspired by Words to live by, too.  Please be aware, we want to see your altered book pages, journal pages, loose journal art, canvases, fabric pages, and digital art.  However, we cannot accept cards, ATCs, ATCoins, or tags, and will be forced to delete your entry.

Since the 9th annual ICAD (Index Card A Day) challenge began today, I will show my Day 1 card.   In the future, I will share my ICADs every Monday, then the final two and the wrap up on Wednesday, July 31.

Day 1
Feel free to join in, too.  You will find the link on my right sidebar.  Don't forget to share your Second on the 2nd tomorrow, where you show a post you have published some time in the past.

I love those words you chose to add to the beautiful journal spread, the space really draws the eye to the pretty butterfly and the peaceful setting of the Irish cottage.
I am looking forward to joining in again at AJJ soon.
The ICAD looks great, good luck with reducing your stash. Never a good idea we can always fins uses for the stash eventually.

I absolutely love this page Elizabeth. The "less is more" approach on this one made it really outstanding!

Lovely page and quote. I'll enjoy seeing your ICADs. I participated back in 2015. Sadly no time this year as it's diploma season and by the time I finish, I'll be too far behind to try to catch up. Have a good day!

I am excited that Halle is our hostess. It is great to get some "new blood" as they say, although I know she has been making art for far longer than I have known her. I love you first page for this new theme. Joseph Campbell wrote some amazing books and I actually have that quote on a stamp. And how true it is. I can't wait to see your ICADS either. Isn't it hard to believe we are in June already. Wowsa. Hope you have a great day. Hugs-Erika

I often don't use words, but I like how this came together for you. I've added this as an inspiration for an ATC post a few weeks down the line but will not link to y'all of course. I find inspiration everywhere :) and this has great possibilities. I've been looking at the ICADs I've seen online and have discovered ATCADs for June. Who knew?!

Two great challenges/projects. I like the first one because the background refers to "words" as well as the subject of the spread. I can't wait to follow your ICAD's. I have a lot to catch up on here on your blog, sorry I've been missing lately.

Wow - ICAD month here as well ... that's exciting!!!
Have fun! I am looking forward to the cards and think it is a great possibility to use up scraps and stuff! Fabulous idea! Your first one assures that many great ideas on ICADs will follow!
Happy ART JOURNAL JOURNEY! Happy ICAD month!

Absolutely love this page spread... the words of the quote and the words in the background all make me happy. Halle's theme is obviously right up my street - and it's lovely to see where this step into using words took you. The collaging is so gentle on the page, and I love the added stitching detail.
