T Stands For Curtis C's

I bet you thought I would celebrate Mardi Gras style this week,

like I have with Mard Gras beads and King Cake babies in the past,

or I would share the results of the Shrove Tuesday pancake race between Olney, England and Liberal, Kansas.  Sadly, neither of these are on my agenda today.

Instead, before the end of the year (2018), my foodie friend Sally wanted to go back to Newton, KS, a town about 35 miles (56,3 kilometers) north of Wichita.

Our destination on this bitterly cold, windy, rainy day was Curtis C's.

She had seen a review of the place and wanted to check it out.  She wanted an entree

and I personally didn't care, because I didn't find a thing on the menu for a vegetarian.  See what I mean by Kansas has not caught on to the fact there are a few of us out there.

I suspect you want to see the beverages, although I ordered water, as did Sally.

She talked me into getting a chicken fried steak, which I gave her to take home to eat the next day.  Each entree included one trip through the salad bar, a pototo of choice (I got baked), a roll, and a veggie.  Sally had corn and I suspect I did, too.

I pigged out on the salad, even though the bowls were not large.

After I ate, Sally boxed up my chicken fried steak and white gravy, while I took a few photos of the sports memorabilia.  You can see the tiny salad bar in the next room.

If you live in the states, these might mean something to you.  If not, feel free to skip to the end.

Feel free to scroll at your own pace.

Sports trading cards were on every table.

OK, I admit it.  I got a bit carried away here,

because everything on this wall honored Joe Montana.  Per Wikipedia he was an:
American football quarterback who played in the National Football League for 16 seasons, primarily with the San Francisco 49ers and then with the Kansas City Chiefs for the final two seasons of his NFL career.

I have no idea who this is.

I don't know this basketball player, either.

It seems basketball wasn't as well represented as some of the other sports.

It's now time for you to share your own drink related post.  It can be gifts you received, photos, a place you visited, movies, postcards, books, sketches, mixed media, drawings, paintings, tags, scrapbooking, or other art that is digital, hybrid, or traditional, as long as it in some way relates back to a drink, any drink.  Regardless, please share below and Bleubeard and I, along with the rest of the T gang will be by to visit.   Please link only your T post and not your blog in general.  Old photos are acceptable because they may be taken any time, not just on Tuesday and not just this year.

That looks like a fun place to visit. Pity they didn't have more choice for you. At least you got lots of nice photos. Happy T Day, Valerie

oh my, you drove that far and didn´t get a veggie meal... but then, advantage sally, who could take your meat home;)
here we had a very stormy carnival day, many outdoor events were cancelled. bad for the ones who had made large preparations for the day. but i personnaly don´t care about this event.
have a great week, elizabeth:)

Looks yummy! I looked it up. In Newton? I think my husband would like it.
Re all the bling form Mardi Gras. I finally got rid of all mine. I had a suitcase of it and the kids when little used to play with it a lot! Have a great week. Thank you for being such a gracious hostess to T Stands For Tuesday every week!

I see what you mean about Kansas has not caught on that there are some vegetarians out there. I think most places I've gone to in CT have at least once choice that contains no meat. I like all of the sports memorabilia in the place where you ate. I'm not a big sports fan, but it's fun to see that kind of decor. (And I did think you would have some kind of Mardi Gras centered post for this week. I liked the beads in the first photo.) Happy T-Day!

Are those floating dolls in the cup I saw, now that would give me cause to change my brew, I would think I was going bonkers[crazy]. No comments, I'm half way there already being a messy crafter.
The photos are all great, with lots of interesting things to see on the walls and shelves even if you didn't follow the sport they looked good.
It was a shame you traveled all that way and the food wasn't suitable for vegetarians, Sally got the bonus taking home the meat part of your meal.
Happy T day wishes Elizabeth.

If I ever get to Newton, KS, I'll be sure pass up Curtis C.'s, Elizabeth. I'm not vegetarian, but I avoid calorie- and fat-laden food. Plus I'm not a sports fan. What a shame to travel so far for such a disappointing meal. Although if Sally was happy that's what friendship is about ;-)

The first time I ever heard of baby-in-the-cake, I won. My Mexican compañeras were delighted. It was pretty special.

I miled at the 'baby-in-the-cake'. Here they have other creatures too. I won it in one of the first years we were here.
I'm really disappointed that your friend Sally would be so selfish as having you drive all that way when there is no vegetarian option. I can't believe there are still restaurants that don't cater vegetarian. At least one item..
The meal looks nice actually. A salad bar is always a winner.
The decoration is very... baseball. Lot of interesting memorabilia. I saw one photograph with a crowd of people in a square. There were more people there than in Washington at Trump's inauguration.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca

Looks like a fun place to eat-going out to eat is difficult for me too-finding no gluten-usually the salads are pretty safe. enjoyed all the sports photos.
did you get any snow?
Happy T hugs Kathy

How disappointing for you to drive so far and not get a decent Veggie choice ! Your salad looked OK but something warm in Winter would have been better I'm sure! The memorabilia looked great though - I am quite fascinated by American sports! Happy T Day! Chrisx

Considering you live in the beef capitol of the world, it's no wonder there aren't many vegetarian choices for you. At least you had the salad bar, even if it was little. The menu had me at the Home Run burger. I love bacon cheeseburgers. I was a little surprised to see pennants to New England sports teams. As to the basketball players. Himself didn't recognize the first fella, but the second one is Paul Pierce who played for the Boston Celtics. Happy T Day!

It's interesting how you have a difficult time with vegetarian food. I think we have more choices here, but then I can't actually say that as there are places with lots of veggie dishes and places I know that don't have much. It's too bad you had to give half your meal to Kathy to take home. I did find it interesting that the Patriots banner that had hanging said Boston Patriots, which is what they were back when they formed but haven't been named that since I was a kid. I hope you have a happy T day and maybe you will have a little celebration of Fat Tuesday. Hugs-Erika

Wow, that is a lot of sports memorabilia. Your meal looks good and I love a good salad bar. That is sad that you were disappointed with the menu. Hopefully you will be able to find other places to visit that are friendly to your diet.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate

Elizabeth my husband would love that restaurant with all the sports memorabilia, our son likes one restaurant that's a sports bar where we sometimes go for breakfast, they have the live matches on the TV and it can get quite noisy, not my idea a a nice family breakfast, ha,ha,
my problem in San Francisco is that many restaurants have so many dishes with cheese on them, I love cheese but not on my meal unless its pasta or some such thing. I find it too rich and filling, I get some funny looks sometimes when I ask them not to put cheese on, I think maybe because its not an English thing to have cheese on the top of a meat dish, now a baked potato with lashings of cheese, yummy.
I had to look twice at the Baby in the cake, I've never seen that before!
Have a great week

I always enjoy viewing the places you and Sally eat and looking at each menu. I'm not surprised a sports oriented place is one without vegetarian options. I like salads but I'm not a fan of salad bars (or buffets) so I would have been in real trouble. Your cup of tea with floating babies was amusing though. At first I thought they were jasmine flowers. My mind sees what it wants to see. Hahaha.

If I were a vegetarian I think I'd have gotten the all-you-can-eat salad bar. As it is that mushroom swiss burger with onion rings sounds good :) I love a restaurant with a theme!

BTW, my hubby says that Dave Stallworth is the greatest WSU basketball player ever! He changed WSU basketball forever! We are great WSU basketball fans! Just thought I would share that. He just died recently, ( he lived here after his pro career) and they honored him with a stature outside Koch arena.
I hope to get my hubby over to Curtis Cs soon.

Well, that's Mardi Gras with a large side order of Americana! A very traditional diner by the look of the food - and no, not much for the vegetarians! - but then all that amazing sports memorabilia. The babies in the tea at the start gave me quite a turn!

You already know My eyes zeroed in on the beef, and the mexican Burger sounds like it would be pretty tasty. That salad bar is definitely tiny, and cute. Very cool that they gave special kudos to the great Joe Montana. I like that they took so much time to really focus on the different sports, particularly the cards and memorabilia. That must have taken quite some time to collect and create. Thanks for sharing another interesting restaurant! Hugs...RO
