T Stands For La Chinita and Lest We Forget

Before we begin, I want to share this T Tuesday post I wrote last year.  The painting is an abstract of the Twin Towers right before the attack.  It was a beautiful sunny September morning that turned into a disaster the world over.  If you were over the age of five on September 11, 2001, I suspect you remember where you were.  This had such an impact on the entire world,  I suspect it is as ingrained in our memories as if it were only yesterday.  Thank you for allowing me this look back and to pay tribute to all the people who died that day, and even more, to those they left behind.   I also want to remember all those who have died as a result of the carcinogens that polluted the air and the lungs of those who helped with the clean-up as they, too suffered for years.

Now to my normally scheduled post.

In early July, my foodie friend Sally and I visited La Chinita.

We have been here several times before.

We tend to go to restaurants we have enjoyed in the past.

I always find something new each time I visit.

They have a decent menu

one

even a vegetarian can enjoy.

There's even half a page of drinks.

Sadly, none of these choices appealed to me.

After we ordered, I decided to take a few photos of the art on the walls.

Sombreros are apparently hot and appropriate.

Of course, I knew exactly what I wanted when I got there.  I love chili rellenos, and these are cheese.  I have made them in the past, but they take forever to make, so I would rather buy them.  They also came with beans, rice, a "salad" and three flour tortillas.

My foodie friend Sally, wearing a tee that represented my final alma mater, ordered ham flautas that also came with beans, rice, and a "salad."  With her flautas, she got sour cream and

guacamole, which she hates.  This avocado based accompaniment is one of my favorites.  Luckily, when I took a photo of the guacamole, I also got my water with lemon, the only photo in which it was included.  Lucky me!

As we were leaving, across the street from the restaurant was this bug twirling high on a pole.

My apologies.  I'm having Blogger problems, including Mr. Linky.  I thought this had posted, but I had to go back to Blogger to learn that it tried to post, but I got an error every time I published.  I shut the computer down and now I'm hoping it publishes.

By now, I'm sure you know the drill.  It's time to share your drink related post this week.  It can be photos, a place you visited, movies, postcards, books, sketches, mixed media, drawings, paintings, tags, scrapbooking, or other art that is digital, hybrid, or traditional, as long as it in some way relates back to a drink, any drink.  Regardless, please share below and Bleubeard and I, along with the rest of the T gang will be by to visit.   Please link only your T post and not your blog in general.  Old photos are acceptable because they may be taken any time, not just on Tuesday.  And please don't forget about 9/11.

I remember your Twin Towers piece, Elizabeth. Thanks for sharing it again. I remember exactly where I was - in Mexico watching the TV with my husband in horror. We kept saying, "No this can't be. It can't be ..." Then I thought of the people I knew from my last job who still worked there ...

Boy, La Cinita's menu looks very familiar to me ;-)

Happy T-day! Eileen

Your restaurant choice looks like a hit- lots of choices, reasonable prices and generous portions! I enjoyed the decor too but fro some reason my fave is the bug(dragonfly?) on the pole:) Happy T day!

I remember this Twin Towers post. It was a very sad day back in 2001, wasn't it? I can't believe how long it has been because it doesn't seem that long. And your Mexican food looks so yummy. I haven't had any for quite a while and I do love it. Looks like it was a nice lunch out. Hope you have a super T day. Hugs-Erika

Your abstract painting reminds me of an architect's conceptual drawing. And I have the same water goblet. So many choices on the menu. The decor is fun and I'm loving the bug mobile.

I’ve only just seen the rest of your post. The Mexican food looks yummy. I don’t understand why we don’t have Mexican restaurants here. I’m sure I would love it.
Happy T Day,

I hope you are having a great week! Happy almost T Day. I posted tonight, because have appointments tomorrow and didn't know when I could do my posting. I always hate to be late; would rather be early! LOL Love the bug!

yes, at work, (not where I work now) when the news broke and the boss came round to tell us (we didn't have radios or tv to watch at work) I am afraid your dinners don't look very appealing to my tastes but I am glad you and Sally enjoyed it. Did laugh at the salad - it's barely a garnish let alone a salad.

i know 9/11 2001 was the first day of a new school year and i thought the world would break down. accidentally this year it is again the first school day here... and in the meantime changed so much - not to the best. sigh.
your food looks deli! regretfully mexican food mostly is dominated by beans and corn, which i can´t eat with my ulcerative colitis. that´s why i never could live a vegan nutrition.
happy t-day:)

Yes I remember 9/11 and the pain it caused then, as well as the recovery years for all the folk involved. It should be remembered.
I liked the look of the delicious food you shared today, the menu seemed quite big, so many choices. I also liked the art .
Happy T day wishes Elizabeth

p.s. another tip I read about the string pulling.... use a house brick on the book for even more pressure. I didn't try that as I was happy with the result.
I did have to keep the book in place with my other hand as I pulled the string.
I hope you try it out, it was fun.

So many people impacted by Sept 11th. I was in my 12th grade career class in high school when the first tower was struck. I remember. Your abstract painting is a wonderful!
I love Mexican and your food looks wonderful. I never had guacamole until we got married but it is a favorite of mine now. And I love the sombreros on the wall.
Happy Tea Day,

Sadly i did not think to put a 9/11 mention in my post this week Elizabeth.. Although i remember exactly where i was when it happened.. I was at work .. at Lowe's doing price changes in the Hardware department.. It was still early in TX so the department had the radio playing as they were stocking the shelves.. It wasn't long before a crowd was gathered around the radio listening to the events unfold..
Hubby and i are one of the few people (i think) that disagree with the monument put in place.. We feel the towers should have been built back even taller than before. With a memorial not only the people who lost their lives are remembered but it cannot help but memorialize the man who orchestrated it and i'm sure thats what he would have wanted.

What a great post on your Mexican restaurant.. Your food reminds me i haven't had Mexican for quite awhile. Yum!! Hugs! deb

That's such a cute restaurant, and the food looks tasty. If I were choosing from the vegetarian menu, I think I'd pick the cheese quesadilla. That bug sculpture is delightful :)

I was at home on 9/11. My hubby was in the bedroom getting ready for work and had the news on the little TV. He called out that a plane had flown into a skyscraper, so I turned on the big tv to see what had happened in time to see the second plane and know this was a deliberate act. Horrifying. The TV stayed on at our house while the reporting developed. I had forgotten the date had been named Patriot Day until I read my FB feed this morning.

I too remember where I was on that sad day, just home for lunch when a friend called to ask if I was watching TV and wondering if what she was seeing was actually happening for real!
I love Mexican food and the "big bug" outside the restaurant is cute.

Your food looks great! Yes I do remember 9/11 - our classroom cleaner came in and told us at the end of our school day and it was shown on TV as it was all around the World! A most original tribute Elizabeth! Sorry you are having problems with your internet! Hugs,Chrisx

What an emotional day, I can't believe 17 years have gone by, doesn't seem possible. Chili rellenos, yum. xox

Seventeen years. It's hard to believe. And yet we all know right where we were, what we did that day. You're right. Never forget.

A great tribute to those who were affected by that horrific terror attack Elizabeth. I had no idea about it until I went to pick my kids up, and everyone was talking about it in the playground. Can't believe it's really 17 years since it happened.

I just read an article about the amazing service dogs that helped during that horrific time. Many of them passed
due to respiratory and neurological problems.
Your food look SO incredibly delicious!!OMG. We're going out to dinner tomorrow at a restaurant we enjoy quite a bit, have not been there for a long while, but now that I'm healing and can enjoy time out and about, that's the first place I want to go:)
the bug is very cleverly made..!
