Rolling on the River and Down by the Sea

In the U.S., riverboats are common ways for people to cruise the river.  Although the Mississippi is the best known river for paddle boating, there are also river cruises on the Columbia and Hudson rivers.

I'm definitely enjoying my time on the river, where all meals are prepared and there are frequent stops in major towns along the way.

The paddle boat on the river is even better than a luxury liner on the high seas.  Note the paddle wheel that acts in conjunction with the motor.

Just look at all those flags!  There's no doubt this boat is sailing on a U.S. river.

We're definitely singing as we're "rolling on the river."

We even have our ticket.

It's the perfect way to spend a week or more while someone takes care of our every need.

Materials used include white card stock painted with blue, greens, and lavender, colored card stock, vintage sheet music, a butterfly, a ticket, a dimensional embellishment, words taken from a magazine, and a focal image from a travel magazine sewn in place using variegated thread.

Thanks for joining Bleubeard and me today and don't forget to join us at Art Journal Journey where we're celebrating summertime, this time on the river.

And because this paddle boat has a wheel, I'm also joining Moo-Mania and More whose theme this fortnight is Wheels.

(I have no idea what the problem is, but once I add the MM&M badge, my font size changes.  For that I apologize, but there is nothing I can seem to do about it, since I've tried everything I can think of.)

Chrissie's blog post yesterday reminded me time is running out on Joan's Beach theme at Tag Tuesday

And since I'm spreading the love around, I'm also joining my artistic friends at Try it on Tuesday, where Gill is the guest designer of Tags.

Bleubeard and I are going to meet you by the sea.

There are shells,

sea glass,

wonky sewing,

weather worn wood,

and sandpaper sand.  Materials include shells, variegated thread, sandpaper, images, cutouts, and sewing.

Please stop by Tag Tuesday  and Try it on Tuesday, too.  I'll be at all four locations today.  And maybe someone can put a hex on blogger, so my Moo-Mania and More text looks right the next time I link to them.

Wonderful journal page, I wish we still had those sort of boats on the Rhine! There used to be one, and we went on it to Zons, but it seems to have been de-comissioned now. Thanks for joining us with your lovely tag at Tag Tuesday and TIOT, much appreciated. Have a wonderful day, hugs, Valerie

Your journal page brought happy memories of two riverboat cruises I've taken. The first was when visiting friends in Louisville, Kentucky. We did a riverboat lunch cruise on the Ohio River. A tugboat ferried out a pizza lunch. Was fun watching the tugboat cruise offload pizza to the riverboat crew. The second cruise was a brunch cruise on the Mississippi River when I visited Minnesota. The scenery along the Mississippi was beautiful and we saw eagles. Have a great day!

That's a pretty awesome looking riverboat! I have never seen one in person, much less ridden on one. You did a lovely page. The tag is my favourite piece in this page though - is it any wonder? That lady reminds me of ARTchix images. The composition is perfect, and the addition of shells is great. The sandpaper sand is a nice touch too.

Wonderful journal page! I think such boats should travel in more countrys - we have the river Danube, but why not such a boat?
Your tag is also beautiful!

First off, I think being an a paddleboat cruise would be fantastic. I have never cruised on one so I feel like I got to today. :) Secondly, I love the nostalgia of the page. Something about me and summer is I find it makes me get nostalgic for those old fashioned times. A little simpler. And I also love your tag. That gal is ready for the beach. I like how you and a few other people have done horizontal tags. You don't usually see them that way. :) Have a great Friday. Time for me to go out in the yard and do some weeding. Hugs-Erika

Love to take a cruise of our American waterways but those boats are so dang expensive, oh my gosh. Might have to do a driving tour someday, but a paddleboat sure would be swell. Lovely journal page. xox

The tag you have made for TioT's looks fabulous, she looks happy to be beside the water. I loved the small shells you used as well.

What a fabulous post Elizabeth - I just love the look of those boats and wish we had them here. I have a cousin that lives in New Orleans and his wife sent me some notelets with the Steamboats on but they are just too nice to use. The nearest we have to that sort of boat is a paddle steamer called 'The Waverly' which I think just has small paddles in the middle of each side and that sometimes calls in to our pier on its trips.
I love your tag very much, the vintage bathing suite is wonderful and I love your stitchwork, shells and all the fabulous details.
Thanks for sharing at 'Try It On Tuesday'.

I love both of these, Elizabeth. You know I love water and whether it is riverboat or by the sea, it's all good and you capture it well. Wouldn't it be fun to go on a riverboat?

Thanks for your wonderful comment on my post on self-checks. I have really enjoyed the comments on that as much as writing the post. Once Rick leaves the lake I will need to be extra sure to connect with people up here as I'll be on my own. Good, but I'll need a little human connection too!
