In the land down under

Erika, who is hosting Art Journal Journey this month, with her "Every journal page tells a story" theme, and Moo Mania and More, whose theme this fortnight is "Love," as well as Try it on Tuesday, whose theme is "Anything but Square" are invited to join me as I head to Melbourne

and the land down under today.

She found love down under.

She found love in Melbourne,

then traveled to the outback.

As I was creating this heartfelt piece,

the song "Land Down Under" by Men at Work kept playing in my head.   I've often said I was born a decade too late, because my favorite rock groups came from the 1980s.

In case you don't know the song, or can't read my writing,
Livin' in a land down under
Where women glow and men plunder
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run and take cover.
The rock song was written by the Australian group's co-founders, Colin Hay and Ron Strykert.  It hit the states in late 1982 and reached No. 1 in January 1983.  It eventually sold over two million copies here in the states alone.  Billboard shows it at No. 4 for 1983.

My substrate is the back side of my Sydney entry from a few days ago.  It is a used file folder I colored with some green paint through a stencil.  Two different travel brochure images were used, as well as vintage sheet music.  I free cut a heart from some painted paper and added the city Melbourne, AU.  Because rectangles are not square, I am hoping the Try it on Tuesday design team will find it acceptable.

Now let's head to my favorite challenge blogs, Art Journal Journey, Moo Mania and More, and Try it on Tuesday for some mixed media art, collages, and art journal pages that are out of this world!

Great use of that song and addition to your page. I enjoy your travel journal; lots of arm chair daydreaming about places I'd love to see. Has your ice melted? We're into some light snow this morning-nothing to worry about except that it means more shoveling and slow driving. Happy midweek. Hugs-Erika

Love the colors of the page that capture Australia. Deep blue oceans and sandy dessert. I'm considerably older than you, so when I think of songs for Australia, I always think of the Aussie poet, Banjo Pattinson. He wrote many beutiful words, but is best known for "Waltzing Matilda". Now, I'll have an ear worm to keep my company while I push slush off the front walk Have a great day!

I truly don't see how you have time to do all you do -- art just about every day, posting every day, and all the rest of life. Bravo. You do it all so well!

Lovely Melbourne page Elizabeth. We live in Perth, but my husband worked in Melbourne for about 7 months a couple of years ago and used to live in that black building to the right on the 3rd photo (which is next to the Eureka tower, the tall building with a gold square on the top).
And the song is beautiful, the type of song that makes one smile. I love 80's bands and music too.

Someone made a comment about an "armchair traveler." I love that. If you can't visit in person, how wonderful to imagine!

I'm impressed with your participation in so many blog hops. It's been way too long since I've done that!

I love this page Elizabeth! I have cousins 'down under' and have an open invitation to visit them both! Don't know whether we ever will! I love the greens and blues here and as for the song - it is one of my favourites! So pleased you joined us to Try It On Tuesday! Hugs, Chrisx
