Random shots

Here are a few random shots I took over the past few weeks I've not had a chance to share before.

Day lilies popped up in a small garden in my back yard.

Are these cardinals resting on my wind chimes?

They arrived together and left together, but stayed long enough for me to get at least two good shots of them.  Yes, I love my camera.

I decided to get a few shots of the latest effects of nearly 9 inches of rain we got last weekend.

Three people died in this river, but further down stream the last time it flooded about a month ago.   Two died because they were stupid and put their boat in the water even though there were signs everywhere that they would be fined if they entered the water.  The third person was a rescue worker, a minister trying to save the two stupid people.

My rose bush continues to produce blooms.  I'm thrilled the bush has done so well after I cut it back this spring.

Same rose bush, same rose, but different background.  The only reason I'm showing this shot is so you can see my day lilies and echinacea (aka cone flowers)

referenced against the rather busy background of the neighbor's yard.

I have more of these random shootings, but I'll share them later.  Right now it has started to cool a bit and I have lots of work to do in both my yard and basement.  Thanks for joining me today.  I am always grateful for your visit and continued support of whatever "art" I throw your way.

Your garden is looking good in spite of all the weather hazards, must be a lot of work. Love the pics of the birds on the wind chimes, so pretty. The river looks very full, some people are so stupid it must hurt, and how tragic that someone died trying to save them.
Have a good weekend, and hope the weather stays fair for you. Hugs, Valerie

Nice pictures. Wow your water level is high. Is that a river? I am guessing it is. And not to correct you but you have purple finches on your wind chimes. But how cool for them to land there. And they are the state bird of NH. 🤓 Now your life is complete. Ha ha. Hope you have something fun on your weekend agenda. Hugs Erika

How green and lush everything looks E.
I guess that is the up side of so much rain.
NINE inches is alot!
Terribly sad that lives were lost because of the flooding.
Since you put a question mark about the bird on your chimes...thought I'd chime in and say they look like purple finches that we see here in VA sometimes. Very pretty birds!
Your rose is gorgeous and such a beautiful looking up from below shot you took of it. Really lovely with the petals illuminated with sunshine!
It is dry here and feeling like a HOT steam bath...takes a little extra time for the paint to dry on pieces we're painting and hope to move into our new enclosed porch tomorrow. (Old pieces freshened up with paint). oxo

Your garden is looking good Elizabeth but …as ever when I see your neighbourhood photos there are questions!! Oh and an answer too! As I have been so interested in seeing birds of the USA here on your blog and on others, I have found a website that I can look up information on birds I see - I have several reference books for Britain and Europe but they don't seem to sell them for USA here(and why should they?)The birds you have are probably House finches (often mistaken for purple finches) but again what do I know?!!
Now for the questions
1 How far do you have to go to reach that river?
2 Which direction are you looking(NSEW) to see those tall buildings?
3 Are all of the houses in your street of wooden construction?
4 Am I being too nosey???

I do love those echinaceas - I think I saw some in a garden we visited so will look out when I visit the garden centre!

I am going for a catch up now - we had fun with the two cousins (my grandsons) but when we got back on Thursday evening we were very tired - luckily youngest son and partner had booked a table to take us out for a meal so we didn't have to cook! We slept very soundly that night!!

Huge, Chrisx

I agree with Patty that these are not cardinals but purple finches (but maybe house finches. I have too much trouble telling those apart... http://feederwatch.org/learn/tricky-bird-ids/purple-finch-house-finch-and-cassins-finch/ ). We get cardinals and these finches around here but see the finches more often on the patio.

My day lilies are long past blooming, and it's a treat to see your photos. I have some cone flowers, too, and am hoping they hold up well in coming years. Yours are looking good!

I haven't had a rose in years and never at this house, but I do like yours. They smell so good and are such pretty flowers :)

Well whatever those birds are called, they were handsome visitors to your garden. Your flowers all look beautiful and how green everything looks, but I imagine you could do with less downfalls of rain all in one session.
Its so sad folk loose their lives in the water, but notices are there for a reason.

Flowers are looking good. That was a lot of rain, though! :)

The birds are definitely Finches.... Probably purple finches due to the larger amount of red on the bodies. Lovely small birds that can provide hours of entertainment at feeders. I"m loving the cooker weather that has hit the Midwest too. Getting lots done outside when the new puppy allows me to work and not play with him that is.

The rains certainly made things lush and green, but too much of a good thing! When I first glanced at one of the photos I thought, "I didn't remember a pond in the yard". Then I read the caption! Lovely photos.

wowser...9 inches is extreme! we could use some of that here...love your garden pics. I agree that the birds on your wind chimes look like purple finches...even though they look more red than 'purple.'

I always like to see your photographs, Elizabeth, of another part of the world.
