Winter's beauty

It's time again to join Art Journal Journey where our host Chrissie chose "Winter Wonderland" as the theme for January.

This is for all those who live in the southern hemisphere, or those who wish they were taking a Caribbean cruise about now.

There are many transparent layers under the title I created on my computer.   The first layer I added over my substrate which is a page in my Coll-AH-ge Too altered book, included several colors of watercolors.  I used several of those same colors on my title.  The second layer was part of a napkin sent to me by Valerie.  The swirls add a great deal of interest.

The third layer was a transparency

I created from a travel brochure of the Caribbean.  Because the image was wider than packing tape, I used clear book cover sticky material to create the transparency.   It's like clear contact paper, only a bit heavier and wider than packing tape, but it has the same characteristics of packing tape.  If you've never made a tape transfer, you can go here for examples and instructions on how to create a tape transfer.  I also show the difference between packing tape and the clear sticky tape I used.  Of course, the photos were taken with my old camera, so they aren't the best.

The final addition included the snowflakes that are meant to be used for table decorations (those small decorations spread around party tables that get on everyone's clothing before the end of the evening).  I got a package of them one year at a party store, and use them often in the winter.  Note the winter trees that run across the bottom of the napkin.

Here's one final look at Winter's beauty.  I think I explained all the materials I used in this spread, but will reiterate I used watercolors, a napkin, a transparency from an image found in a travel magazine, and plastic-y snowflakes.

Thanks for joining me today, where I'm joining some really talented artists at Art Journal Journey.  Maybe I'll see you there, too.

I love your page, and really, really wish I could be bathing in warm water and feeling the sun on my back just now, it's freezing here, and I need some warmth! Thanks for the nice dream, Elizabeth! And thanks for joining us at Art Journal Journey again! Have a great day, hugs, Valerie

How inviting is that water?? Thanks for telling how you got the wonderful transparency- it's so effective. I'll give it a try. And your tape transparency turned out great. I've only tried it once, with less than desirable results. I'll check your link and try again. Well done!

WOW I just love everything about your page E!
Your layers and that transfer worked out brilliantly.
You have me very interested in what "clear book cover sticky material" is exactly.
The packing tape transfer works so well but as you said they often are not wide enough. We found some 2.75" wide clear packing tape but even that leaves me wanting for a wider surface.
Hope you're staying warm and cozy.

Your page has me longing for warm weather now that it has turned really cold (at least compared to the recent past) here! Really nice job with the transfer, too!

Haha! "Winter's Beauty" - great idea, beautifully made.
Your explanation of how you made it was comprehensive, as usual, and I do very much like seeing and reading how a piece was made, it adds so much to the view of the picture. Love the pink snowflakes, how appropriate, and the winter trees running along the sea.
I wish you had an email address, but I'll just say here, thanks for your very thoughtful and considered comments in my blogposts, so very much appreciated.
