The iconic statue in Rio

I wanted to begin by thanking everyone for visiting and commenting on Sally's 400 plus pairs of shoes.  I wish I had taken photos of the many, many bags of shoes we hauled to the thrift store this week, but I didn't even think about it until Krisha put the idea in my head.

So, this is the garage as we were finishing today about 3 pm.  I confess, I worked so hard, I got heat exhaustion (not quite as severe as heat stroke), but it was worth it.  We started at 6ish and stopped around 3:30.  The photos were taken around 3.

Some of you may remember that Sally's garage clear-out began when she ran her car into her garage door.  You can see the door has been replaced, even though they couldn't match the color, since apparently the manufacturers don't make that color that matches her house anymore.

When we started this, the garage was completely filled (and I mean COMPLETELY) with full boxes.  We had to begin at the garage door and excavate from there.  Here is the nearly completed garage clean-up,

with the exception of the last bag of trash that I have not removed.  There are two boxes in the middle on the left that go to me, but the rest is Sally's.  The bookcase at the front right will go to the thrift store that picks it up, and the box at the bottom and the one on the top of the bookcase are going to the household hazardous waste facility.  I am simply thrilled we have taken NINE full car loads of stuff to the Goodwill over the past few days.  I only wish I had taken photos before this, but you have NO idea how happy I am this ONE area is finished.

BTW, have I mentioned how much I love to organize?  It's true, it's a passion.  And if you could have seen the mess we started with, you would know I'm pretty good at it, too.

Now for the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio, possibly the most famous of all statues in the world.

Three different views from three travel magazines were glued over the substrate and background.  If the background looks familiar, it's one of the 30 abstracts I created last year in September.

I'm sure many of you knew this was an example of an Art Deco sculpture, but I wanted to let others who might not be art enthusiasts know.

I found a full page filled with the iconic statue so I used it as the background for the back side of this entry.

All images were from various travel magazines or travel brochures.

Thanks for your continued support, and I will try to remember to take a few photos at Sally's today when we finish her bath and start on her bedroom.  Most of her walk-in closet has been cleaned, but maybe I can grab a photo or two of some of her shoes!

What a sense of accomplishment you both must have! All that clear space! All the donations will be such a blessing to others :) Win/Win!

Do you have a system for clearing out and organizing?

Totally can't decode which is more awesome at this point, your achievement I. The garage or the size of the statue!
Seriously, you really are doing such a great and long lasting favour...and at the same time getting your organising fix...awesome!

Wow! I saw garages like that all the time at my old apartment building--packed right up to the garage door and almost to the top of the door. What a job!! Talk about an accomplishment!! She is lucky you are such a good friend--who loves to organize, too. ;)

Quite an amazing statue--from any angle.

Wow, that sounds like EPIC job you did at Sally's garage. I can't imagine anyone having 400 pairs of shoes. I don't think I've owned that many in my life! Lol But we all have our foibles I guess. You are a wonderful friend for helping with such a big task.
Your Brazil pages are wonderful and make me yearn for a little sun and blue seas _ not necessarily the heat they have there mind you ;) That iconic statue is so beautiful; I was curious about the trek to get up there and find it has 223 steps _ or there are elevators and escalators apparently. I know which I would be using! Lol.
Have a fabulous weekend Elizabeth :D

wonderful pages dear E, this statue is certainly magnificent. Is it larger than our statue of liberty? it looks huge! ... and quite the saga you are in with Sally! somehow wish you could help me get organized here in Ohio! ;) I think you must be part psychologist too, to be able to convince Sally that the extra stuff needs to go.
