T Stands For Second Annual Safe Communities Neighborhood Event

Some of you will remember that last year I hosted our first annual Safe Communities neighborhood event.  This was originally called National Night Out, a US event which was always held the first Tuesday in August.  Every two years, this event, whose mission is to "inform the public about various police and community programs," conflicted with our primary elections.  Additionally, August is HOT, so I was delighted to learn about Celebrate Safe Communities, developed in 2008 in partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice and the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) to promote crime prevention in local communities.

Since our neighborhood had changed dramatically over the years, and attendance had declined so much, I had decided not to host another disappointing National Night Out, but when I learned about Safe Communities, I signed up for the event last year.

To my surprise and delight, it was well attended and enjoyed by many.  Last year I made Lipton Tea and Starbucks provided the coffee.  This year I decided to go a bit more international, and chose Jasmine tea I got at the Asian Market.  This photo was taken Monday afternoon, but I'll make the tea Tuesday morning.

For Tuesday, I have a huge agenda that includes making sun tea, mowing my lawn, helping Sally till 2 pm, showering, getting the coffee from Starbucks, and setting up the tables for the snacks (in that order).  So I'll visit anyone who links before 2 am my time Tuesday, but won't be able to visit until after the party Tuesday night if you wait till later on Tuesday (after 2 am my time) to link.

Please share your day, your drink, your fun activities, whatever you choose, as long as it can, in some way, be drink related.  Please link back to T Stands For Tuesday and please link only to your post, not your entire blog.  I promise to show photos of the event the next time we share T.

Sounds like a great event, and I think it is good to get together with others out of your community and get to know people better. I had Jasmine tea at the China restaurant here, and it was quite nice. But I think if coffee was on offer, too, I would probably choose that! You have a lot to do, so keep up your strength and have fun! Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

Good for you to host this event! I used to do a similar thing when I used to live in the UK. There it was called: Neighbourhood watch. I was the only one with a computer in my street so I was the one to communicate with the police. I was the one to write and print out the invitations etc. I got involved. It's a good thing and you get to know your neighbours. Looking forward to seeing the photos.
Not sure about Jasmin tea though. (I've never tried it.... it doesn't appeal to me)
Have a good Tuesday and a great week,
CU soon,
Lisca

Hope this event is an even bigger success than last year (and that's saying alot).
We used to always get Jasmine Tea in a teapot when our family ate out at a local Chinese restaurant when I was a girl. I always associate it with eating Chinese food now. It has such a delicate fragrance and flavor.
Happy T Day E!

This sounds like a wonderful event Elizabeth. My community could certainly benefit from something like this, since our homeowners association doesn't do squat! I'm going to send an email to the association president regarding this. Thanks for the info and I'm glad this year's event for you community was successful!

That sounds like a great event to be helping with. I know they have a big neighborhood block(s) party over where Dagan and Leah bought their house and they attend. It's a good (safety) way for people to meet their neighbors so they know who belongs the rest of the year and who doesn't. ;) Jasmine tea is one of my favorites! So is Starbucks coffee--LOL!
