At the beach

I've created a spread in my experimental altered book for Moo Mania and More's latest theme which is the beach.  I had planned to join Julia for WOYWW this week, but I learned I'm having company in the morning and must be up by 6:00 am.  That's when I normally go to bed on Wednesday, so I have to bow out this week since life got in the way of internet visits.  Instead of showing my workspace, I found time to create a beach spread.

For my beach scene, I first painted most of my page with blue paint, then placed white tissue paper over the top.  While still wet, I added more paint over the top, which I hoped created the waves and foam I was looking for.

You might be able to tell I tried to stamp the shells on the sandpaper, but that didn't work out too well.  So of course, I had to stamp them on cream colored card stock and fussy cut each one.

After I assembled the beach scene, I cut off the excess sandpaper that extended on both sides.  In hindsight, I wish I'd overlapped one side because it's obvious that I pieced the sandpaper together in the center of the spread.

It's hard enough to read my writing when I'm not fighting scrunched tissue paper, but this made it nearly impossible.  It reads "waves, sand, shells at the beach."  I didn't want the words to overtake the "scene," so I kept them small.

Materials I used include tissue paper, acrylic paint, sandpaper, card stock, wood mounted rubber stamps, and a Zig ink pen, all in my altered book substrate.

Thanks as always for visiting and don't forget to check out the other lovely beach entries at Moo Mania and More.

You are amazing you create non stop. And you finis. Spent days making a page for someone and made it wrong size and could not get it the right size. Finally whipped up some thing , not what i intended. Ah well. Not posting today.

Monica. Sweating it out in 100+ degree weather.

I don't know why no one likes his own handwriting??!!
Meanwhile I like mine and I didn't like it for a long time - I remember.
Thank you so much for the wonderful entry to Moo Mania & More!

This is really, really awesome! The waves and foam came out great and the sandpaper was just genius! The shell stamps on the sandpaper actually added some depth in my opinion. Beautiful work!

Great idea for your sandy beach and that beautiful blue water sure does look inviting E!
Seashells are one of my favorite things at the beach ♥
You are making me itchy for our upcoming beach trip end of September.

I always admire your lo-tech way of making art, and the great (and different to others) results you can get. The sea looks very sea-y and the beach looks very sandy, and the shells are fun.
