Altered Playing Cards, Week 6
I want to begin by thanking Claudine at Claudine's Art Corner for picking my name in her latest giveaway. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw I had won. It just goes to show, you don't have to post on Facebook to have other participants, including Claudine, visit. Thank you again, Claudine.
For week 6 we are to think Halloween.
Once again, I had NONE of the supplies Claudine used, so of course, I had to make these cards my own.
I started my first card by adding three colors of my handmade shimmering mists. I forgot to take a photo before I put the other two away, so all I had left was the last mist. One thing that surprised me was the gesso seemed to "melt" away when I added the mists. I set this card aside to dry while I worked on the second card.
I didn't have those lovely napkins Claudine found, but I would LOVE to get some. They are super. Instead, I cut part of a page from an old dictionary and glued it to the substrate (playing card).
I had intended to age the paint a bit using some gifted walnut ink, but changed my mind
when I saw how the orange paint adhered to the old paper.
I should call this the week of the ribbon, because, instead of tissue or washi tape, I used ribbon on my cards. For the card on the left, note how I stamped more bats after I masked the focal image. That was the hardest stamping I've ever tried. For the card on the right, I found a tiny bit of gifted ribbon and used it. I used three stamps on this one: my jack-o-lantern, crow, and a bit too cutsey for my taste gifted spider.
A scan of the two cards shows all the stamping mistakes I made, as well as my attempt to color the jack-o-lantern's eyes and mouth using a very incompatible color pencil. More than likely, not my finest cards, but I can't change them now, since I don't have replacement cards I can use.
Thanks again for your continued support, even though I'm not part of the Facebook group.

LOVE your perfect Halloween APC's Elizabeth, i don't think Halloween has anything perfect about it it's all about creepy and fun things wiggling and being half there...
Great use of colours and ribbon, i really LOVE what you have created here, both of them! :-) xxx
Perfection is boring.
I'd rather see an artist take risks.
Your results are wonderful.
I love your APC's - congrats on winning dear Elizabeth!
Hope you are well and Sally feels better ...♥♥♥
Ribbon was a fantastic idea, Elizabeth, and I love how both your cards came out! It was a good idea to cover the whole card with a page of print, too. I'm storing all these ideas in my head for a later date!
I'm loving these!
So happy that you won... what ever it is that you won!! LOL Great little Halloween cards... not sure I am going to being playing Halloween at all this year but I will certainly be back in time for Christmas fun!
Great halloween cards, elizabeth.
boohoo, Halloween is approaching and i am not ready for it;) weather is becoming fine here (after a lot of foggy days) and it almost feels like late summer.
now i´m taking your apc´s to get into halloweeny mood, hopefully. i like the Cards very much, great stamps!

oh and congrats on winning too!!!
Well, congrats on winning! I'm sure it's something fabulous. I will say I adore the card on the left - I actually think it looks pretty perfect. The one on the right is fun in its not-so-perfect state (who needs perfect anyway? - I always say we can leave that for Hallmark). I will say I'm impressed with that crow sitting exactly on the jack-o-lantern! Well done all round.
Congrats on your win. Yeah, the non'FB team. These are great. My first thought was it was a pity your witch wasn't a bit bolder, although you could always stamp and fussy cut her or go over with a pen. Then I thought, actually it's quite nice she's a bit faded. Ghostly. She matches the faded book paper. So I think imperfection wins out here. I like the fiery eyes on your pumpkin. Very sinister looking. The happy spiders and the ribbon are great. Hugz
