Altered Playing Cards, Week 6

I want to begin by thanking Claudine at Claudine's Art Corner for picking my name in her latest giveaway.  I nearly fell off my chair when I saw I had won.  It just goes to show, you don't have to post on Facebook to have other participants, including Claudine, visit.  Thank you again, Claudine.

For week 6 we are to think Halloween.

Once again, I had NONE of the supplies Claudine used, so of course, I had to make these cards my own.

I started my first card by adding three colors of my handmade shimmering mists.  I forgot to take a photo before I put the other two away, so all I had left was the last mist.  One thing that surprised me was the gesso seemed to "melt" away when I added the mists.  I set this card aside to dry while I worked on the second card.

I didn't have those lovely napkins Claudine found, but I would LOVE to get some.  They are super.  Instead, I cut part of a page from an old dictionary and glued it to the substrate (playing card).

I had intended to age the paint a bit using some gifted walnut ink, but changed my mind 

when I saw how the orange paint adhered to the old paper.

I should call this the week of the ribbon, because, instead of tissue or washi tape, I used ribbon on my cards.  For the card on the left, note how I stamped more bats after I masked the focal image.  That was the hardest stamping I've ever tried.  For the card on the right, I found a tiny bit of gifted ribbon and used it.  I used three stamps on this one: my jack-o-lantern, crow, and a bit too cutsey for my taste gifted spider.

A scan of the two cards shows all the stamping mistakes I made, as well as my attempt to color the jack-o-lantern's eyes and mouth using a very incompatible color pencil.  More than likely, not my finest cards, but I can't change them now, since I don't have replacement cards I can use.
