Day 11 of 30 paintings in 30 days

I'm linking to Leslie Saeta at Slices of Life for Day 11 of 30.  Today is a very sad day for many of us who live in the US.

Therefore, I'm calling this one "8:25 am EDT."

The title reflects the time a mere 20 minutes before the North Tower was hit by the hijacked passenger jet American Airlines Flight 11 on 9/11/2001.  It was a warm, cloudless day filled with hope and promise.  20 minutes later, many lives were forever changed.  I tried to show the positive of this day, hoping the memories aren't too painful for those of you who visit.

As I made this piece, I cried.  I cried when I loaded it onto blogger, and I'm crying now.  I've never had anything affect me so radically, even though I live nowhere near NYC.  I hope you don't cry when you see this.  It was created as a tribute, not out of sadness, but honor and remembrance.

This piece is 8" X 10" (20,32 cm X 25,4 cm).

I think that it was a world event. Even way out in the country in Australia, I had a colleague who was a block away on a conference and was luckily late that day.

A very nice tribute.

I'm sure I have said on my blog that DH, DD & I used to go there every Dec. to see the decorations and where DH worked. I will never forget almost a year later walking the streets down there, still filled with inches of dust, empty stores; it looked like a ghost town.

Lovely painting Elizabeth...... Last night hubby and i came across a commercial from Budweiser on YouTube. One with the Budweiser Draft Horses....they made a commercial honoring 9/11 and it said it was only aired one time. Not sure why as we both thought it was very tastefully done. You might check it out...Hugs! deb

I remember I was in hospital with mum and while I was waiting for a diagnose, I stood in front of the TV and watched that atrocity. Human race is strange. They need more hatred than love to continue living. This is a beautiful tribute, my friend.Let's hope we live for love and through love some day.

What a great tribute Elizabeth!
Oh yes I remeber as it were yesterday!
What a tragedy!
I couldn't believe that it was reality what we saw on TV -
My girl was a baby at that time -
born in February 2001.

I remember the day so well. Like you and many others, I cried so much at that time, and I am not even in America and have no ties whatsoever with the country. It was such a shattering time, world-wide. Your painting is a very thoughtful tribute :D

I was crying again on the anniversary too. I will always remember that day and the sadness that it gave me just like you. I wasn't there and thankfully no one I knew was there but my world was rocked from it.
I was pregnant with Sam and having grandparents lunch with my mom and grandma. The girls had help me make the lunch that day and had cute pink dresses on. Those towers stayed in my thoughts for days and I wouldn't let the kids watch tv because it was always talking about it.
Still sad even now 13 years later and our world still needs to find peace and love.

Thank you for this perfect tribute to this day.
