Day 1 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days

I'm joining Leslie Saeta at Slices of Life for 30 Paintings in 30 Days.  Today is my first day and my theme is "In the Abstract."

My first entry is a bust.  A total bust!  What I learned first is I need better brushes.  I couldn't make the white thin enough, and if you look closely, you'll see a brush hair toward the bottom middle.  What I learned second is, you don't mix colors on the "canvas," in my case a piece of pre-gessoed cardboard.  What I realized third is, this is going to be a VERY long month.

Any comment will be greatly appreciated, but keep it PG, please!

Your post made me smile because the colors were so calming.Art materials can certainly be frustrating--better you learned some of these lessons on Day 1 than Day 10!

I like the colors and wouldn't call this "a bust". When you get through the 30 days you'll be an expert.

awe, it's def. NOT as bad as all that-I quite like it-especially because it reminds me of the ocean! Play each day with abandon and don't work for specific results-you'll see:)

Oh my YOU are so hard on YOURSELF! I agree with Linda, I quite like it too.

Now you know why I have so many pens/ pencils and markers.....right tool for the right job. Taught to me by my DH many, many years ago. I probably have more paint brushes than pens, pencils and markers....LOL I just don't keep them all "out".

Too funny, a long month. Don't be so hard on yourself. Expansion is worth everything, even if it doesn't turn out like you planned, it rarely does. xox

Be gentle with yourself Missy!
I am inspired and excited about your "abstract" challenge and you have me playing a bit with abstract too.
The colors and texture and lines in what you've created here are super!

Now you see …I like this too! I'll bet when you look back at the end of the month you will maybe see an improvement in technique but I think you will be pleased with the composition! It does have a lovely calm feel to it and those red circles are the perfect contrast - well that's what I think anyway! Hugs, Chrisx

We wouldn't have known you didn't make the wider white lines on purpose. I thought it looked very wave-like. Anything we learn while playing is knowledge acquired. :)

It's definitely not a bust!!! I like the simplicity of it and anytime you try art it's a learning experience. You just keep going on and at the end of the month you'll be flying and wish the month wasn't over yet :) I was very late with T Day... one of those non-compliant days with brain and body not functioning in unison :-/

E, you are way too hard on yourself! Ease up girl. This is a fab first abstract! I love the colors ....and it is abstract so the varying thickness of the white lines fits in. Fabulous Day 1 painting!! Hugs

I also love the colours on this Elizabeth and feel it is very reminiscent of the ocean. I would never have known the white lines weren't how you wanted them in the first place, had you not said.

Thank you for your comments on Wee Man's Fun Day post and my T post.
Wee Man and I looked for Route 66 maps online and were both amazed to find out that it is 3,945km long.
How wonderful that you got to see Elton John AND it was free, haha. I'm so glad that you liked my garden centre pics.
Have a great rest of the week (hugs) :D

I love the colors and design. Remember you are doing abstracts...don't be so self-critical.

I like your colours a lot - the composition reminds me of a paint chip, which is not a bad thing. I think this turned out well - who says those white lines have to be so thin? I laughed when you said it was going to be a long month. I bet it will fly by as you will get into the groove in no time! :)
