When I learned the week's colors, I found some fabric that I had dyed unsuccessfully. I knew I would use it eventually, and this was the time. I got out my green fluid acrylic that was as close to apple green as I owned.
I watered down the fabric and used the green to color the background. I really liked how the original dye colors began to blend with the paint. 
I picked the side I thought looked the best and folded the fabric in half. Ironically, I had cut a stalk of celery last night, and had saved the end, hoping to see if I could make a cabbage rose. I wasn't sure it would stamp and actually look like a rose, but I was game for anything because I love experimenting with the SOC entries.
Color me impressed. Color me shocked! I was thrilled, and decided to keep going. Granted, if you are a stamper and want exact, pristine images, this is probably not the technique for you. But if you like the handmade look, this rose has a certain charm to it. Note that I grabbed a sheet of scrap card stock and laid between the two sides to keep the paint off the back.
Once the roses were stamped, I looked for some dark green
to draw the stems. Please note, the paint and the background are still quite wet.
One really interesting piece was the card stock I had used to keep the paint off the back side of the fabric. In case I didn't make myself clear, I folded the original fabric in half and placed the card stock in between the two halves.
Still quite wet, I knew this piece was not going to dry any time soon. I also realized I had no idea how to finish it, although I know it is far from finished, and a bit of thread outlining the elements is not going to be enough to call it a finished piece.
So today, I give you my interpretation of the SOC colors, and I'll add this to a pile of WIPs (or works in progress). I hope to have it finished by the wrap up, so any and all suggestions are welcome.Thanks so much for visiting. Beautiful! I adore those roses! I don't seem to be able to eat celery these days(for some reason it makes my heart race!) This really doesn't look like an unfinished piece but I'll lol forward to seeing more of it! Brilliant! Love the celery heart print! and of course the color combination is lovely too...since you doubled the fabric, I can visualize this becoming a very nice tote bag. just a thought...or a lovely cover for one of your sewn journals. so many possibilities!

Elizabeth this is fantastic! I don't know how you manage to get these pieces out so quickly. I'm inspired by these colours though and can't wait to give them a go.
I would say this could easily be a finished piece. But if you insist that it needs something else, some stitching would be fun and maybe a few beads and/or sequins for a bit of bling? And of course something I often throw into my work - words.

I've seen lots of people stamping with different kinds of vegetables recently, but not celery to my knowledge... it makes a great flower! Well done on your speedy SOC entry.
Great job so far, can't wait to see the finished project. I see stitching up the stem maybe a few beads. What ever you decide will be fab and enhance the piece even more.

At first I thought this was a rose stamp you had made, but what a very fine rose the celery has made. Lovely work with the three colours and I'm sure it will be dry soon. Maybe some echo stitching would fit the bill. I like the idea by Dianne of making a bag.

Wow Elizabeth, that rose is fabulous!! I too thought it was a stamp or a homemade rose stamp, not celery! (Yuckety). It may be worth buying the stuff just for this, it's not expensive ;) Can't wait to see how you finish it :D

Beautiful. Isn't it fun to make ones own stamps. We used potatoes as children, and I've often thought of trying it now, carving an image and stamp.

I am way behind in all the challenges and have since excused myself from them all now and am only doing what appeals to me. I was sick of struggling with the Craft Barn's Q&L challenge each fortnight, I'm not a Q&L person. I didn't even push myself to do the Timmy tag last month either and haven't WOYWWed for weeks now. that you could create such a great rose from a celery stalk? I used to do a lot of printmaking and even made my own stamps by carving erasers and potatoes, but I never thought of this.
The end result may have been a happy experiment ---but I love it.

STUNNING use of this week colours, must get some celery just for this purpose (i dislike celery a lot lol).

A cabbage rose?? From celery?? That is amazing, Elizabeth. I love the results and I think it could be made into a tote, as another commenter said. I have carved stamps from other things, but would never have thought to use celery for this purpose. Brilliant!

Hello! I like the background of your piece; it's sort of like green, veined marble. But of course the stamped roses are the show stopper here. I think this is my new favorite of your artwork.
