Columbus Day T

Originally I had another post planned: one that would take us back to Old Town, a place I showed last Friday.  However, today (October 14 this year) is the day we in the United States celebrate Columbus Day.

To honor this day, I created a spread in my latest altered book.

These photos were taken before I got my new camera, so it will be hard for you to see much of anything, with the possible exception of my cup and saucer.

On the left side of the spread, I show some bullet points I got from the internet, along with a picture I had in my stash of Columbus.  Although Columbus discovered land on October 12, we celebrate Columbus Day on the first Monday closest to that date.

For the background surrounding both pages, I used some old pigment ink and smudged the ink a bit with my fingers.  I added a bit of ribbon as a decorative element by the ship.  I recently noted I don't use ribbon enough in my art, and since I have SO much of it, I should learn to use it.  Not sure it's successful here, but it's a start.

I tried to get a good shot of the cup because I like the pattern.

However, because I was using my old camera, that was probably a futile gesture.

What are you celebrating today?  Did you have a three day weekend, or was it back to work as usual?  Do you ever celebrate Columbus Day?  Regardless, show your tale for T Tuesday and we'll be by to visit.  Remember, your post can be on any topic.  It doesn't have to feature tea (or even coffee), and the photos don't have to be taken on Tuesday.  But in order to play, you must link below.  Happy Columbus Day wherever in the world you live.

I like this spread--very appropriate for this T Tuesday post, too! Does your book have a particular theme?

Hi Elizabeth - nice to see your journal and celebration of something so important in the history of your country... the only thing I can think of that is currently happening here in OZ is seeing news coverage of people trying to encourage our aboriginal children to get out there and try new things without fear of any "racist" issue preventing them from achieving as has happened in the past... gotta support our good causes whenever we can. Hugs to you for the week - Mxx

I like the ribbon, Elizabeth. Nicely done pages. We have a 3 day Thanksgiving weekend. We ate on Sunday so today I reorganized my kitchen cupboards. Very satisfying and means that come the cold I shall be free to play as my work will be done! ;) I'm thankful!

Hello! Hope you had a nice Columbus Day. I must admit that I don't really celebrate this holiday anymore, but I'm sure it's a nice holiday for those people who get the day off from work.

I like the design and execution of the altered book pages that you show here. Good goal to try to use more ribbon in your work...it does add that nice soft touch, doesn't it?

Take care!

Happy T Day to you!! I love your cup, white is always nice to me!! How wonderful that you did a Columbus Day page, so fun! I like both sides and seeing the information in little bits. Great use of ribbon, I have tons that just sit here not being used.
My kids get the day off from school this Friday instead of yesterday?? My husband still had to work, not to many get the day off.
Have a wonderful day and thanks so much for the comment on my post yesterday. Will be here next week for T time!

We don't really celebrate Columbus Day. However I do like your pages commemorating the holiday. I really like your white cup and saucer too.

Your Columbus pages are super E and have an old world quality to them!

The company my husband works for traded the Monday Columbus Day holiday for the day after Thanksgiving off some years ago...

Your white cup and saucer sure are nice!

I am liking our cooler temps and enjoying hot drinks much more now...

Happy T day to ya, hope you are enjoying some nice fall weather in your neck of the woods too...

Elizabeth, so sorry about the link--I have no idea how that happened! Thank you so much for fixing it for me!

To answer your question...it's a lake! It is pretty full right now and pretty soon they will start draining it a bit so there is room for snow melt.

Better late than never...I am linking up today, and LOVE that white cup an saucer! Not much of a Columbus Day celebrator. It's like any other day for me these days. Lovely spread on Columbus in your altered book-I do like the ribbons as they remind me of flags in the wind. The ship looks so majestic, but from what I understand traveling on one was not so much fun. Especially for such a long voyage!

I did modify my post today to say that the voting on the Notforgotten Farm project doesn't start until tomorrow- 10.16.13 So will add a link when it's up. Thanks E. for the chance to join your T Party!

I was just thinking I'm tooo late, then the postman came and I had to!! Love your book, I wonder how much we really know about who found what back then? When you think how old the world was I'm guessing it was all found and lost again, many, many times!
Thank you soooo much for my ATC and Halloween card which (witch) arrived today!!! Thank you!
