I'm back today with Annie at A Stitch in Time for a Friday Smile. I promised I'd be back and I finally am!!
The reason I'm smiling today is because of my new camera. I absolutely LOVE it. I even love the box it came in. I'll even prove how much I love it.
My friend Sally and I went to lunch yesterday (Thursday) so I could celebrate being (mostly) finished with my basement project.
On our way to the restaurant, I stopped to take photos of this area in the middle of my city I had never seen before, which is located in the center of "Old Town," an old industrial area that had been renovated with shops, boutiques, and upscale eateries and bars. This appears to be a place you can sit and enjoy the surroundings and learn a lot about Old Town. What caught my eye were the ice tongs that, on closer inspection, appeared to be holding a block of ice that was encased in the bricks. The numbers are dates that correspond to the attached plaques.
In this shot, you can see the "ice" in the block.
Those of you who frequent my blog probably never imagined you would be able to read anything this clearly. And this was taken while trying to catch up to Sally who was not about to wait while I stopped for photos.
Here's another quick photo I took before I ran to catch up with Sally.
All of these buildings are still standing, and are in use. For once, my city decided to save the old buildings, rather than subject them to the wrecking ball.
I haven't quite got the hang of this camera, yet. My old camera took photos, but when you saved them, the images were actually larger than what had shown on the screen. This camera does not have that same capability, which means I must learn to compensate. It's quite obvious I didn't get this plaque centered when I took the photo on the fly.
After we ate, I took a couple of photos of the clock tower, but my real reason for bringing my camera
was to show how the leaves on the trees had not yet turned colors. I can't believe it's mid-October. It looks like July.
I hope at least one of these photos has put a smile on your face. I know they make me happy because for years my readers have been unable to see clear photos. I'm happy that will soon change.
And please don't forget to visit Annie for more smiles this Friday.

glad you're enjoying your new camera! I was out and about with mine too this week (I have the week off work) and went to London and to Kew (again) where the colour also is still very green.
It's good to have you back. No wonder you are smiling. What a fab camera and what clear pics it takes. Hope you get lots of time to play with it.
Hugs,
Annie x
Super post ans super pics from your new coolpix. Love the art area. Really interesting.
I "wore out" my first coolpix and after many years of extreme use and travel all over the World the iris lenscover jammed and broke. It still works but DH bought me a new one which was a bargain offer price. Now I have one for messy situations and one for best!!!
He knew how important my camera was to me.
ENJOY!!

ps I rarely use the flash as it takes great pics in low light and if they are too dark they always edit well. It enable photos to be taken covertly in many situation such as exhibitions/galleries!!
Hi Elizabeth, love post and great photos - your new camera looks fabulous. The old area of town looks fabulous and seems to have been renovated tastefully too, with a view to keeping the history alive. Love the tongs. Definitely made me smile :) Elizabeth xx
enjoy your camera, and those photos are brilliant.
Wow Elizabeth, what fab clear photos, you must be so relieved sweetie, I know how frustrated you were getting with your old camera. I'm sure you will have lots more fun playing with it my lovely.
Huge hugs x x x x

Oh yes great pics. The tongs caught my eye immediately. Cool old town area. Have fun with your new camera.
great photos E! I have an older version of this camera and I love it... mine lives in my purse!! enjoy!!
Your new camera takes great photos! The ice tongs caught my eye first, too! Hope you enjoyed your celebratory lunch; it must feel good to be done with the basement project. Have a wonderful weekend!
Fun pictures, love the ice tongs! I like it when they restore the old buildings, rather than tearing them down. Modern architecture doesn't fascinate me, but I love the "OLD" buildings. My first trip to NYC I bet I took 100 pictures of just the buildings LOL.
Happy playing with your new camera!
I love the plaque sculpture
:)

thanks for taking us along.
and yes your new camera is terrific!
did you ever figure out the .jpeg, RAW setting issue? earlier you said that the images you were taking were too BIG and taking up too much space on your blog. anyway, they look great. glad to see you are having fun with it.
yes, definitely an improvement in photos...is your camera really that purply color? the monument feels a bit like a collage too...all those vintage images and pieces fit together like a puzzle. What a lovely visit! glad to hear your project is progressing nicely...happy fall!
P.S. Of course you can post on your blog any of the art work you've received from me! haunted houses or whatever...
Glad you are having fun with your new camera...it is always great to have a new toy isn't it. Thanks for the smiles. Caro x (#9)

What a beautiful group of pictures these were from your outing. I can see them so clearly and even read the ones with words.
Have fun playing with it and learning how to use it. What a great time of year to do that in also. Will send some fall colors your way, we have a little.
